The "American Idol" winner revealed his brother's death while serving as the grand marshall Sunday at the 12th annual Race for Hope 5K in Washington, D.C.

"I actually lost my brother yesterday to a brain tumor and I couldn't imagine being anywhere else right now," Cook told the crowd, according to People, which first reported the death.

HOLLYWOOD, Calif. — Reigning "American Idol" winner David Cook is about to embark on his first national tour.

The 26-year-old singer will kick off "The Declaration Tour" on Feb. 13 in Tallahassee, Fla.

"I'm more than excited to hop on the road and support this record," said Cook in a statement on his Web site. "This tour represents both a new beginning and a return to form for me."

"She's great," Cook told TV's Extra. "So far, I've had a really good time with her."

Cook even put his cards on the table while being interviewed by the 26-year-old Caldwell on the TV Guide Network's "Idol Tonight" show.

The 25-year-old Cook won by a margin of 12 million votes out of a record 97.5 million cast by viewers.

"I'm absolutely at a loss for words right now," the Blue Springs, Mo. native told the crowd after being revealed as the winner. "This is amazing. Thank you."

The 25-year-old rocker suffers from high blood pressure and was feeling ill all day, but still managed to perform Dolly Parton's "Little Sparrow" on last night's live show. He was treated for high blood pressure and released.
