Charles Barkley Arrested for DUI

Charles BarkleySCOTTSDALE, Ariz. — Basketball great Charles Barkley was arrested early Wednesday on suspicion of driving under the influence, The Associated Press reports.

The former NBA star was stopped by authorities after running a stop sign around 1:30 a.m. in Scottsdale, Ariz., AP says.

Barkley, 45, was issued a citation for driving while impaired and released pending the results of a blood test, Gilbert police Lt. Eric Shuhandler told AP.

Elisha CuthbertNEW YORK — Hockey star Sean Avery was suspended indefinitely Tuesday by the NHL for "inappropriate" comments he made to reporters about his ex-girlfriend, actress Elisha Cuthbert, The Associated Press reports.

The suspension by Commissioner Gary Bettman came down hours after Avery spoke with reporters following a morning skate in Calgary, where his Dallas Stars were preparing to take on the Flames Tuesday night.

Former San Diego Chargers Star Chris Mims Found Dead

LOS ANGELES — Former San Diego Chargers star Chris Mims was found dead in his Los Angeles apartment Wednesday, according to The Associated Press.

Police officials tell AP that the 38-year-old Mims was discovered around 9:30 a.m. after authorities were summoned to check on his welfare. Foul play is not suspected, AP says.

Mims was drafted by San Diego in the 1992 NFL draft after starring at the University of Tennessee. He went on to play seven seasons with the Chargers before a one-year stint with the Washington Redskins.

The defensive lineman retired in 2000.

Luke Walton Stalker Arrested, Trial Date Set

Luke WaltonLOS ANGELES — An El Segundo woman has been arrested and charged with stalking Los Angeles Lakers star Luke Walton, The Los Angeles Times reports.

Stacy Elizabeth Beshear was arrested on Sept. 18 after she pulled up to Walton's car and "acted like she was cocking a gun," according to Sgt. Steve Tobias of the Manhattan Beach Police Dept.

Walton first alerted police officials about the 34-year-old Beshear last year.

O.J. Simpson Found Guilty in Las Vegas Robbery Trial

LAS VEGAS, Nev. — O.J. Simpson was found guilty late Friday night on all 12 counts stemming from his memorabilia showdown in a Las Vegas hotel room last year, The Associated Press reports.

After deliberating for more than 13 hours, jurors found the NFL Hall of Fame football star guilty of armed robbery, kidnapping and 10 other charges. In the Sept. 13, 2007 incident, Simpson rounded up five men to storm into a hotel room, where they seized several items from two sports-memorabilia dealers at gunpoint.
