Michael Jackson's Doctor Charged, Pleads Not Guilty to Manslaughter

Michael JacksonHOLLYWOOD, Calif. — Michael Jackson's doctor was formally charged Monday with involuntary manslaughter, nearly eight months after the King of Pop's death.

Dr. Conrad Murray pleaded not guilty to the charge against him as Jackson's parents and siblings looked on. He arrived at the brief hearing amid shouts of "murderer" from the circus-like crowd outside the Los Angeles courtroom.

Michael JacksonHOLLYWOOD, Calif. — Dr. Conrad Murray is expected to be formally charged Monday in the death of Michael Jackson after an ongoing game of cat-and-mouse with Los Angeles prosecutors.

On Friday, the Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office announced that charges would be filed, although they failed to confirm that they would be against Murray. The announcement came just hours before Murray's defense team was scheduled to hold a news conference in an effort to force the prosecution's hand.

LOS ANGELES — Taylor Swift continued her magical year on Sunday as she won five trophies, including artist of the year, at the American Music Awards in Los Angeles.

Swift won artist of the year over late music icon Michael Jackson, who earlier had emerged victorious in all four categories that he was nominated. His awards were accepted by his brother, Jermaine Jackson, who paid tribute by wearing the King of Pop's trademark white glove.

Other multiple winners included hip-hop acts Jay-Z and the Black Eyed Peas, who each won twice.

Jackson wore the rhinestone-studded glove when he unveiled the moonwalk in 1983 on Motown's 25th-anniversary TV special. It was purchased by Hong Kong businessman Hoffman Ma at a music memorabilia sale held by Julien's Auctions at the Hard Rock Cafe in New York's Times Square.

HOLLYWOOD, Calif. — Speaking out five months after Michael Jackson's death, Janet Jackson sat down for an interview with Robin Roberts, in which she discussed her close relationship with her brother and her family's attempts to save him from a drug addiction.

"Of course, that's what you do," the 43-year-old singer told Roberts during the In the Spotlight interview that aired Wednesday night on ABC. "Those are the things that you do when you love someone. You can't just let them continue on that way. And we did a few times. We weren't very successful."

While the interventions failed, Jackson said the music icon understood that his family had the best of intentions.

LOS ANGELES — Michael Jackson's much-hyped concert movie won the weekend box office with sales of $21.3 million, according to studio estimates released Sunday.

This Is It earned an estimated $101 million worldwide in its first five days, including $10.4 million in Japan.

The concert film, which opened in 99 countries Tuesday and Wednesday, offers fans a rare, behind-the-scenes look at Jackson as he rehearsed for his sold-out concerts that would have taken place over the summer at London's O2 Arena. The concert film, opening in 99 countries Tuesday and Wednesday, offers fans a rare, behind-the-scenes look at Jackson as he rehearsed for his sold-out concerts that would have taken place over the summer at London's O2 Arena. The film is drawn from more than one hundred hours of behind-the-scenes footage, featuring Jackson between April and May as he rehearsed for his comeback shows. Audiences will be given an inside look at the King of Pop as he creates and perfects his final show.

Video: 'Dancing With the Stars' Michael Jackson Tribute

HOLLYWOOD, Calif. — Dancing With the Stars paid tribute to Michael Jackson on Tuesday night's show, with the late singer's sister, LaToya Jackson, noting the King of Pop's love for dance.

"Michael liked all kinds of choreography. He liked Dancing With the Stars," she said. "He was a fan of the show."

The tribute kicked off with a performance of the vintage Jackson 5 hit "I Want You Back."

"He influenced not only dancing itself, but choreography. We lost not only an icon, but we lost the father of dance and choreography," said dancer Karina Smirnoff.

"It's really important to do this tribute because he pretty much opened doors, and I thank him for opening doors for all of us," reflected dancer Louis van Amstel.
