PHOENIX — Rapper Lil' Wayne was arrested on three felony drug charges Wednesday after federal agents say they discovered illegal drugs on his tour bus at a checkpoint in southwestern Arizona.

The rapper — real name Dwayne Michael Carter Jr. — was held Wednesday at a Yuma County jail on the state drug charges before being released, Capt. Eben Bratcher tells the Associated Press.

According to reports, Carter has not been formally charged and is due to appear in court on January 25.

The 25-year-old will be facing charges of possession of dangerous drugs (including cocaine), narcotics and drug paraphernalia. He was previously arrested on drugs charges in Atlanta, Ga., in 2006, and he is also currently facing illegal gun possession charges, which requires a court appearance in New York on February 25.

The star's bus, which included 11 other passengers, was stopped around 11:30 p.m. Tuesday at a Border Patrol checkpoint near Dateland, Ariz., a town 78 miles east of Yuma.

A Border Patrol dog alerted agents to the presence of illegal drugs on the bus, a DEA spokesperson tells AP.

Officials also discovered a .40-caliber pistol registered to Carter, who has a concealed weapons permit in Florida. It was not immediately known if Carter had violated any weapons laws in Arizona.

The rapper signed autographs for fans outside a bondsman's office after posting a more than $10,000 bond.
