"It was something I needed to do," the 19-year-old actress told MTV News at the film's premiere Thursday night in Hollywood. "I needed to feel the sweat coming down my face; I needed to be able to touch it."
Stewart says the hair chop was actually a bigger deal for her co-star in the film, Dakota Fanning, who "almost cried" at the transformation.
"I did; I almost cried," Fanning admitted. "For some weird reason, I had an attachment to Kristen's hair. But [her new look] was amazing, and it was what she wanted. It's not my hair!"
