HOLLYWOOD, Calif. — Bret Michaels will undergo heart surgery in the fall after his body is fully clear of the current medicines being used to help him recuperate from his recent health scares.
"They have to let everything clear out and then they'll go in and do the operation in my heart and then I'm gonna be great," Michaels told Access Hollywood. "I don't have any other options except to think that it's gonna be great, it's gonna be a smooth operation and I'm gonna feel awesome."
The rocker was hospitalized last week after suffering numbness on the left side of his body, which doctors determined to be a Transient Ischemic Attack (TIA) or warning stroke. Michaels also suffered a second setback when further tests determined he had a hole in his heart.
Both conditions are not believed to be connected to the subarachnoid hemorrhage Michaels suffered on April 21.
"I've never felt pain like that ever," Michaels said of the nearly fatal brain hemorrhage. "I got knocked out at the Tonys by a wall and it didn't feel half as bad as that did."
"It was probably one of the scariest moments in my life... that was... up there with probably the scariest moment in my life," he continued. "This could be it. Your life doesn't flash in front of your eyes. You don't all of a sudden have a rewind of your childhood, at least I didn't. What happened to me is I got very sad that I may never see my kids again, and my family. I was like, 'This can't be happening.' "
On Monday, the Celebrity Apprentice winner thanked his fans in a message posted on his official Web site.
"With all of my heart, soul and the remaining organs I have left (lol) I would like to thank each and every one of you for all of your support and awesomeness," he wrote. "All the good vibes and well wishes gave me the strength to go back to New York and win Celebrity Apprentice. I am not at 100% yet but I have every intention of trying to continue the tour starting Friday in Biloxi. I hope to see your rockin rollin, smiling faces on the road – that is the best medicine I can think of right now. You rock my world."
