HOLLYWOOD, Calif. — Fans have yet to see Jason Mesnick hand out his first rose, but that hasn't stopped the newest "Bachelor" from confessing that he's heading for the altar.
"I'm engaged!" the 32-year-old Mesnick tells People. "I found exactly what I was hoping for, what I was looking for. I'm completely in love."
In August, ABC announced the fan favorite as its newest "Bachelor," one month after the Seattle native was the runner-up on "The Bachelorette." Mesnick said it was the outpouring of support that he received from fans after DeAnna Pappas chose Jesse Csincsak in the finale that pursuaded him into giving reality love another shot.
"I don't want to be by myself," he told the magazine. "I'm ready for a relationship and a family."
Mesnick, who is a single father to 3-year-old son Ty, told People that he went into his latest experience looking for someone who could relate to his situation.
"I was not looking for a mom," he explained. "I was looking for a partner for me and a mentor and a friend to Ty."
Mesnick, who appears on the reality show's 13th season beginning in January, admitted that he "really did fall in love with DeAnna." The estate planner also said he was taken by surprise when Pappas and Csincsak announced their breakup last month.
"I was shocked," he said. "I thought they were going to make it."
