It turns out Lindsay Lohan was never really booked to read the Top Ten list on Thursday's Late Show with David Letterman after all. That's because the show supposedly got punked by a fake rep for the starlet.

"We made a mistake," Letterman's production company, Worldwide Pants, admitted Wednesday in a statement. "Someone purporting to be a friend of Lindsay's reached out to the show yesterday, allegedly on her behalf, and booked her to appear."

"Clearly, this person was not authorized to make commitments on her behalf," the statement continued. "We wish Lindsay well, and look forward to having her on the show in the future."

CBS went as far as to issue a press release Tuesday, promoting Lohan's first appearance on the show since 2007. But hours later, the actress shot down the news.

"I am NOT going to be doing David Letterman," she said on Twitter. "I'm not sure how this happened, but I am sorry for the confusion..."

So who is the mystery person behind the booking? Michael Lohan claims he scheduled the gig for his daughter, telling X17 Online that he was authorized to do so.

"They are liars. I set this up entirely with Lindsay's permission," he said. "It went through Lindsay and she really wanted to do it. It was all set, but at the last minute, Lou Taylor and Leslie Sloane canceled her appearance."

Lohan pleaded not guilty last week to felony grand theft of a $2,500 necklace. Her next court hearing is set for Feb. 23.
