The late Whitney Houston‘s only daughter Bobbi Kristina Brown has reportedly been placed in a medically induced coma and is breathing with the help of a ventilator, CNN and People are reporting.
Her father Bobby Brown, family members and family friend Tyler Perry arrived at her side yesterday.
Yesterday, Brown was found unresponsive facedown in a filled bathtub by her husband and another friend. They immediately administered CPR and called 911; paramedics rushed her to the hospital after they arrived.
Update — Feb. 1, 4:30 p.m. ET:
Bobbi Kristina Brown’s father Bobby Brown has issued a statement.
Privacy is requested in this matter. Please allow for my family to deal with this matter and give my daughter the love and support she needs at this time.
His lawyer further said,
The report that Bobbi Kristina Brown has been taken to the hospital in Atlanta, Georgia is accurate. No additional information will be forthcoming.
CNN reports that a close source said Brown, 21, “was not breathing” when her husband, Nick Gordon, and friend found her late yesterday morning at her Roswell, Georgia home. They called 911 and performed CPR until police and paramedics took over.
A source close to the family spoke to People magazine and said that she “is stable at the hospital.”
“It’s expectedly a very tense time for the family,” says the source. “And they are closing in on [protecting] Krissy.”
The source also added, ”It’s been a difficult time for Bobbi Kristina, who’s struggled in the years after her mother’s death…[she] has been vacillating between extremes for a while now and is fighting grief and demons of her own creation. The loss of her mom and her intense craving for attention of any sort are just the tip of her mountain of issues.”
TMZ is reporting, however, that a source close to the family told them Bobbi Kristina has “significantly diminished” brain functions, “doctors have told her family it does not look good,” and “tests have determined her brain function is alarmingly low”.
Neither the family nor the hospital have yet to release a statement on Brown.
At a press conference yesterday afternoon, Police spokesperson Lisa Holland said Brown is at the hospital and ”is still alive and breathing. Other than that, I don’t know her condition.”
Holland also said investigators didn’t find anything in Brown’s home to indicate the incident was drug- or alcohol-related.What caused Brown to become unresponsive is still unknown; police are currently considered it a medical incident.
Jerod Brown, her cousin and her father’s nephew (who goes by the name YF Kennedy) told E! News exclusively on Saturday that “Krissi doesn’t do drugs” and also “hasn’t been drinking.”
On Jan. 23, 2015, police had been to Brown’s Georgia residence, according to Holland. CNN mentioned someone had reported a fight to the police there, but no one answered the door when officers arrived; furthermore, there was no evidence of an altercation.
The case is eerily similar to the manner in which her mother, the legendary Whitney Houston, died three years ago, and just days short of the anniversary on February 11, 2012.
Our thoughts and prayers go out to Bobbi Kristina Brown and her family.
