Update: Janet Jackson Released From Hospital, Shows Cancelled

By Rich King on September 29, 2008

MONTREAL, Canada — Singer Janet Jackson was discharged after being monitored for two hours at Montreal's Royal Victoria Hospital on Monday night, a hospital spokesperson tells Canada's CBC News.

The 42-year-old singer "got suddenly ill" as she went through her sound check prior to last night's scheduled show. She was rushed to the local hospital, according to a statement released by her public relations firm, W&W, which added that she was hoping to reschedule the show.

Jackson's boyfriend, music producer Jermaine Dupri, was away at the time of her hospital visit. Dupri was at New York City's Marquee nightclub, where he was taking in the Patron Music in Motion Tour featuring TI.

The hospital visit was the second of the year for Jackson. In March, a bout with the flu led to a trip to Los Angeles' Cedars-Sinai Medical Center.

Due to her undisclosed illness, Jackson has cancelled her shows scheduled for Boston on Wednesday and Philadelphia on Thursday.

She is next scheduled to perform on Saturday in Greensboro, N.C.

Jackson first missed a performance in Detroit, Mich. last Friday. The singer's reps told the Detroit Free Press that the show was cancelled due to "production constraints."

Jackson kicked off her first national tour in seven years, "Rock With U," on Sept. 10.
