MTV Planning to 'Ask' Elizabeth Berkley on New TV Show

HOLLYWOOD, Calif. — Elizabeth Berkley's volunteer work is headed for MTV.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the network is developing a series around her Ask-Elizabeth program, the self-esteem workshops the 35-year-old actress started 2 ½ years ago for girls ages 11-18.

"She does these workshops around the country with teen girls and gets them to really open up about self-esteem and body issues," Amy Bailey, MTV's vice president of development News & Documentaries, told the trade publication. "We had been looking for a program that tackled the same issues, so it seemed like a perfect match."

The former "Saved by the Bell" star started the program with her husband, artist Greg Lauren. Together, they have been conducting workshops for schools and organizations all across the country.

"It'll be more than just films of her workshops," said Bailey, who added the show's working title is, not surprisingly, "Ask-Elizabeth. "It'll probably be more verite, where we'll film with Elizabeth and girls around the country in their own hometowns and watch as the events unfold."

Shooting for the pilot is expected to take place this fall.

After her "Bell" years ended, Berkley landed the well-publicized lead role in 1995's "Showgirls." While the film failed at the box office and with critics, Berkley has since recovered. She currently hosts Bravo's "Step It Up and Dance" and has a recurring role on CBS' "CSI: Miami." In addition, she recently signed on to appear in several episodes of Showtime's "The L Word," as well as wrapped shooting on the films "S. Darko" and "The Butler's in Love."
