HOLLYWOOD, Calif. — The burgers are flipping again at the Peach Pit.
According to the Associated Press, Joe E. Tata is set to reprise his role as the diner's owner in the upcoming CW spinoff of "Beverly Hills, 90210."
Tata, 71, tells AP that he just wrapped up shooting the contemporary show's pilot episode, which will air Sept. 2. The actor says returning to the role that made him famous feels like "lightning striking twice."
"The coin's in the air for me," said Tata, who isn't certain if his character will remain part of the show. "I guess it comes under the heading of magic test: Let's see if the audience still remembers me."
The Peach Pit was the hangout joint of choice for the stars of the original Fox series, which aired from 1990-2000. Other original cast members already signed up for the updated series include Jennie Garth, who starred as Kelly Taylor, and Tori Spelling, who appeared as Donna Martin. In addition, Shannen Doherty is reportedly in talks to return as Brenda Walsh.
Describing his character Nat Bussichio as "a good guy, always there to help out," Tata said it was an easier decision when producers approached him about a return. He said he's still approached by fans to this day, many of whom come as a surprise to him.
"Cops and firefighters say to me, 'I used to watch the show — I mean, my wife did, or girlfriend.' But they knew more about the show than I did," he joked.
