HOLLYWOOD, Calif. — Brie Larson has joined the cast of the upcoming Showtime series "United States of Tara," according to The Hollywood Reporter.

The new cable comedy is from Oscar-winning writer Diablo Cody, who penned the teen-pregnancy film "Juno."

Toni Collette has already been cast in the role of Tara, a wife and mother who has dissociative identity disorder.

Larson will play Kate, Tara's 17-year-old daughter who has difficulties dealing with her mother's disorder as she rebels with her own issues.

Also on board is John Corbett, who will portray Tara's husband and the father of Kate.

Shooting on the single-camera series is scheduled to begin this summer in Los Angeles.

The 18-year-old Larson, a native of Sacramento, Calif., made her professional debut performing sketches on "The Tonight Show" with Jay Leno.

In 2003, she was one of the main characters in the Disney Channel TV movie "Right on Track."

Also a gifted singer, Larson has two film projects in the works as well, including "Peck," in which she'll star alongside Keir Gilchrist, Marcia Cross and Adam Arkin.
