CANADA — Barenaked Ladies singer Ed Robertson and his three companions escaped death Sunday afternoon when their plane crashed in Ontario, Canada.

While OPP Sgt. Bruce Quigg wouldn't confirm that Robertson was on board, he did tell the Canadian Press that a float-plane carrying four passengers lost speed while trying to take off from Baptiste Lake and crashed into some nearby trees.

A friend of Robertson's told the paper that the musician was on the plane. Robertson received his pilot's license in 2005, however it is still unclear who was piloting the aircraft at the time of the crash.

An eyewitness reported that after the plane stalled, the pilot managed to set it straight down into the trees with its nose resting on the ground. The passengers then escaped through the windows, where they were later spotted walking on a road. While obviously shaken from the accident, nobody was seriously injured.

This is the second time the band has made headlines this summer. In July, singer Steven Page was arrested in New York and charged with possession of a controlled substance.

Following the arrest, the band cancelled an appearance at a children's charity show. The group was scheduled to be among the performers at this month's Disney Music Block Party on Long Island.

If convicted, Page faces up to 5 ½ years in prison.
