Many moons ago, Disney released one single shot of Meryl Streep as The Witch in Into the Woods. Since then, there’s been nothing. Nada. Zip. Zilch. That is until today when the Disney vault (remember that?) opened and we got to see 10 new pictures from the upcoming film. Certainly we should have at least a teaser trailer to salivate over by now, but we’ll take what we can get.
For those not familiar, Into the Woods is based on the musical by Stephen Sondheim. It blends the worlds of several fairy tales including “Jack and the Beanstalk,” “Rapunzel,” “Cinderella,” and “Red Riding Hood” into a remarkable (and fairly dark) story about love, life, and loss. Recently, there was some controversy when Sondheim told The New Yorker that Disney had made several changes to the musical in order to make it more family friendly. This included, most egregiously, cutting “Any Moment,” one of the show’s sharpest moments. However, Sondheim later clarified that “Any Moment” will be in the film—this time performed by Emily Blunt and Chris Pine—calming some of the critics down.
Anyway, click the gallery above to get a look at all the pictures. Hopefully they will satiate you until Disney finally releases a teaser, which really should be any day now. Into the Woods is set to come out this Christmas.
