Shortly after learning that Jem and the Holograms will be made into a live action movie, now we know who will be playing the iconic rockers. Nashville‘s Aubrey Peeples will take on the dual personalities of Jerrica Benton/Jem, according to The Hollywood Reporter. As for Jem’s bandmates, Stefanie Scott of Disney’s A.N.T. Farm will play Jem’s sister Kimber, Aurora Perrineau of Pretty Little Liars (and daughter of Harold Perrineau) will play Shana and The Fosters‘ Hayley Kiyoko will play Aja.
Jem, of course, is the iconic ’80s cartoon about Jerrica Benton who, by day, runs Starlight Music and, by night, fronts the wildly popular Jem and the Holograms, disguised by the powers of her high-tech earrings. For the movie, some aspects of the story will be updated. For instance, Jem and the gang will find fame on the internet. However, Jem and sister Kimber will still be orphans. I’d also imagine they’ll need to do some tweaking to make the Synergy earring hologram device work.
The production has already met some backlash, as series creator Christy Marx was not included in the film which is being helmed by an all-male production team. Jon M. Chu, of G.I. Joe: Retalliation, will be directing and Ryan Landels is writing the script.
In addition to announcing the cast, the film also released this picture of the cast in character:
