Amanda Bynes was born in Thousand Oaks, Calif. She is the daughter of Lynn, a dental assistant and office manager, and Rick Bynes, a dentist who also practiced stand-up comedy. She has two older siblings, Thomas and Jillian.

Bynes began her career at the age of 7 when she acted in a commercial for Bunch a Crunch candy. In 1996, she landed a role on Nickelodeon's sketch series "All That." Three years later, the network rewarded Bynes with her own series, "The Amanda Show."

In 2002, Bynes made her big-screen debut in "Big Fat Liar," in which she starred opposite Frankie Muniz. That same year, Bynes landed her breakout role on the WB sitcom "What I Like About You." She would go on to star alongside former "Beverly Hills, 90210" actress Jennie Garth for four seasons.
