NEWPORT, R.I. — "Survivor" winner Richard Hatch was arrested on Tuesday, hours after appearing on NBC's "Today Show."
Hatch was taken into custody at his sister's home in Newport, R.I., where he has been living under house arrest after serving nearly four years in prison for tax evasion, MSNBC.com reports.
Kristin Hatch told "Today" on Wednesday that she overheard a sheriff's deputy saying that her brother was being jailed because "he did an interview."
Hatch also gave interviews to WPRO-FM radio and WJAR-TV in Providence.
During his "Today" apperance, Hatch argued that he was the victim of discrimination by a legal system out to get him because he's a gay man.
"I know without question that there are personal issues involved for the prosecutor," he told Matt Lauer. "I don't know why. The prosecutorial misconduct has been egregious."
Hatch also expressed disappointment that the judge in his trial refused to let his attorneys question jurors about their views on homosexuality.
"My personal opinion: He discriminated against me," said Hatch. "I do believe that. I don't think you or anyone else could deny that we, as homosexuals, face discrimination."
Hatch contends that CBS promised to pay the taxes on his $1 million prize, which he earned on the reality show's first season in 2000.
Hatch, who had been scheduled to be released from house arrest on Oct. 7, told Lauer that the tax invasion case has left him "financially devestated."
