HOLLYWOOD, Calif. — Rob Lowe has spoken out for the first time after his former nanny filed a lawsuit claiming the actor exposed himself and inappropriately touched her on several occasions.
Jessica Gibson, 24, filed the suit last Monday in Santa Barbara, Calif. after working off and on for seven years for Lowe and his wife, Sheryl. She then quit her position for the couple on Feb. 24.
"The whole thing is very sad," Lowe tells Entertainment Tonight. "We live in a time where anybody can say anything about anybody."
During her tenure, Gibson claims that Lowe "placed his hand" inside her pants several times from about Sept. 2005 to Jan. 2008.
Gibson also claims that the "Brothers & Sisters" star groped her butt without her consent and that his wife walked around the house naked and made vulgar comments about their sex life.
The former nanny appeared on the "Today" show last week, where she said she remained on the job because "I love the children."
"I needed the job," she added. "I thought it would get better, and I was scared."
Lowe's attorney, Stanton "Larry" Stein, was also a guest on the show and denied Gibson's claims.
"An investigation of dozens of present and former employees has failed to find one single person to verify her allegations," he said. "The allegations in the complaint are simply untrue."
Gibson's attorney, Gloria Allred, responded by saying: "We don't think so."
Lowe, 44, told ET that his family is doing "great" despite the circumstances.
"The boys are great," he said of his two sons. "They are affected by it, but they're moving through it. My boys understand that being a celebrity sometimes exposes you to some really bad stuff and sometimes you get a VIP tour of Disneyland."
