HOLLYWOOD, Calif. — Jason Wahler has vowed to stay sober after being arrested last weekend for DUI in Newport Beach, Calif.
"If I don't stay sober, I am not going to have a life," the former Hills star told Us Weekly.
Wahler, 23, was taken into custody last Friday night while driving a 2008 Chevy Tahoe. He was released on his own recognizance hours later.
The DUI was at least the sixth alcohol-related arrest for Wahler in recent years. One week earlier, he was captured on video being cuffed by Mexican police after he allegedly got into a fight at a nightclub in Cabo San Lucas.
"I am very, very ashamed of everything," he said. "I am very sorry for everything that's happened."
Wahler spent time in rehab back in 2007 and said he was getting his life together until recently. About six months ago, moved back to Orange County from L.A. and enrolled at the University of Phoenix with the hope of earning a business degree. He said he was regularly attending A.A. meetings but eventually "got distracted" while going to L.A. for "movie stuff" and lost contact with his sponsor.
"I think everything happens for a reason," Wahler said of his recent setbacks. "God did that to me, so maybe I would be at [rock] bottom and want to climb my way to the top."
"It's all about getting back on track," he added. "My girlfriend, my parents, my brothers, my sisters and a handful of my best friends are willing to do everything to keep me out of trouble. I never want to drink again."
