HOLLYWOOD, Calif. — Ryan Phillippe says he still has mixed emotions when it comes to reflecting back on Reese Witherspoon and the former couple's 2006 split.
"I still have sadness and complicated feelings about my divorce," the 35-year-old actor reveals in the May issue of Men's Health, on newsstands Tuesday. "But how beneficial is it to keep hanging onto those feelings?"
The couple's breakup was plagued by rumors that Phillippe had an affair with actress Abbie Cornish. While he doesn't discuss the cheating allegations, the father of two admits he's tried to learn from the experience.
"My aim is always to progress - to make better decisions and be a better father, a better boyfriend, a better husband if it happens again," says Phillippe, who also recently split with Cornish.
Phillippe, who next stars in the film MacGruber, admits to being surprised by the self-discoveries he's making as he grows older.
"I thought the most experience you had, the more certain you would be about life," he says. "But I'm finding the opposite, man. I'm more in wonder and confusion than I was in my 20s."
