BEVERLY HILLS, Calif. - The police were called to the Beverly Hills home of Britney Spears Thursday night in a custodial dispute involving her children, according to authorities.
Officers were called at 8 p.m. and were still at the house two hours later, according to Officer Jason Lee, a police spokesman.
The call involved a "family custodial dispute that we are trying to resolve ... peacefully by court order," Lee told the Associated Press, declining to elaborate.
Spears and her ex-husband, Kevin Federline, have been at war for months over custody of their sons, 2-year-old Sean Preston and 1-year-old Jayden James.
The 29-year-old Federline has temporary custody of the children because Spears, who has limited visitation rights, has continually defied court orders.
According to People magazine, Spears was scheduled to turn her sons over to her ex-husband at 7 p.m. on Thursday. A bodyguard for Federline arrived to pick up the boys at the designated time, but Spears refused to relinquish her sons, according to a source.
Earlier in the day on Thursday, the 26-year-old Spears appeared for a deposition in the custody dispute. She was deposed for just 14 minutes, according to attorney Mark Vincent Kaplan.
The pop singer called in sick for a Dec. 12 court-ordered deposition, but was photographed that day driving with a friend. She also didn't show up for a session Wednesday.
On Wednesday, Spears' attorneys from the firm Trope and Trope filed a court motion asking to be relieved due to a "breakdown" in communication with their client.
Kaplan said Spears' attorneys were present for what became a very abbreviated session. According to Kaplan, the deposition was scheduled for 9:45 to 11:45, but it did not begin until 11:32.
"You can imagine in 14 minutes there's not a lot of time to develop questions," he said.
Kaplan said another deposition will be scheduled.
Spears and Federline were married in October 2004 and divorced in July.
