HOLLYWOOD, Calif. — Linda Hogan is weighing her options after her ex-husband, Hulk Hogan, said he could relate to O.J. Simpson, the former football star who was acquitted of murdering his wife in 1995.
"Hulk's serial cheating destroyed our marriage, our family and our future," Hogan said in a statement Wednesday to Us Weekly. "Sadly, his recent comments remind us that his definition of fair is much different than what the law dictates."
Hogan was responding to comments made by her ex in the latest issue of Rolling Stone, in which the former pro wrestler sounds off on her leaving him for "some shaggy-haired pool boy 30 years her junior."
"I could have turned everything into a crime scene, like OJ, cutting everybody's throat," he told the mag.
"You live half a mile from the 20,000-square-foot home you can't go to anymore, you're driving through downtown Clearwater [Florida] and see a 19-year-old boy driving your Escalade, and you know that a 19-year-old boy is sleeping in your bed, with your wife...." Hogan continued. "I totally understand OJ. I get it."
A rep for the athlete has since tried to downplay the remarks.
"Hulk in no way condones the OJ situation," said Hogan's rep. "As part of a larger conversation, he referred to it to exemplify his frustration with his own situation."
However, the statement from Hogan has done little to smooth the nerves in his ex-wife's camp, with her rep telling Us they are taking his threats seriously.
"We have always maintained that the fear that Linda has had to live with comes from the rage and instability much too often associated with pro wrestlers," her rep told the mag in a statement. "Linda and her family are taking these recent homicidal comments seriously. Linda's attorney Ray Rafool is weighting all options necessary to protect his client."
The Hogans, who have two children, Brooke, 20, and Nick, 18, have engaged in a bitter war or words ever since their split was announced in 2007. Their breakup was reportedly caused by Hulk Hogan having an affair with a younger woman named Christiane Plante, who was a friend of his daughter's.
