Happy (Belated) Birthday Jessica Simpson! Here's What She's Worn to Celebrate Throughout the Years

If there’s one thing Jessica Simpson does better than singing, writhing atop a Dodge Charger while wearing tiny shorts, and finding various reasons for an impromptu bikini photo shoot combined, it’s throwing herself an elaborate, over-the-top birthday extravaganza. And while this year she chose to keep the celebratory festivities for her 36th super low-key, that doesn’t mean the pop star-turned-fashion-CEO has forgotten for a single second how to turn the party all the way up to 11.

This year, Jessica kept things chill, taking a close group of family and friends on vacation to the tropical island of Le Taha’a in French Polynesia for a little relaxing fun in the sun. But in years past, the singer went all out throwing a birthday fête for the history books. Here’s a look back at a few of Jessica’s most memorable  celebrations.

2000 – The Year of the Face Cake

In 2000, Jessica used her birthday as another excuse to celebrate the huge success of her first album Sweet Kisses, getting a cake emblazoned with her own visage which also happens to be the cover of that CD. This cake also launched the singer’s love affair with elaborate birthday cakes of all kinds.

2004 – The Year of the Louis Vuitton Dog Case

For those too young to remember what fashion in the early aughts was all about, a refresher: Thanks to Paris Hilton, Louis Vuitton monogrammed everything was all the rage. So applying it to a dog carrying case in 2004 was actually pretty much the height of chic status symbols. Also, this shot is giving us serious Newlyweds flashbacks. #ChickenoftheSea #NeverForget

2005 – The Year of Betty Boop and Car Rims

As we said above, it seems the crazier the birthday cake the better, even if this Betty Boop confection totally steals the spotlight from Jessica’s sparkly Studio 54-inspired dress. But she didn’t let that damper her mood in the slightest, squatting down to pose side-by-side with the gift every 25-year-old dreams of, a new set of rims for her car, instigating a love affair with tires that would last a lifetime.

2010 – The Year Jessica Became One of Barker’s Beauties

For some reason, in 2010, Jessica decided to combine her birthday with the grand opening of the Casino Club at The Greenbrier in White Sulphur Springs, West Virginia, rolling out a giant themed, sparkler-laden cake, as is her wont, using some of her best product modeling poses surely gleaned from The Price is Right Barker’s Beauties.

2015 – The Year of Tough Cultural Appropriation Lessons

For her 35th birthday, Jessica appears to have caught wind of a bad Coachella trend a few years after the rest of us decided this was a big cultural appropriation no-no, donning a Native American headdress. Let’s be thankful that at least this didn’t become an annual tradition.

Happy 36th birthday Jessica Simpson! Long may your love of daisy dukes and affordable fashions reign!
