Avril Lavigne was born in the small town of Napanee in Ontario, Canada. She grew up singing at her church and by her early teens, Lavigne was playing the guitar and writing her own songs.

Her musical talents would soon capture the attention of Antonio "L.A." Reid, who offered Lavigne a record deal with Arista Records at the age of 16. One year later, Lavigne released her debut album "Let Go." Soon singles such as "Complicated" and "Sk8er Boi" were hitting the top ten on the Billboard charts and Lavigne was on her way to stardom, in part due to her striking looks and anti-authority image.

Lavigne’s fame would grow even further in 2004 with the release of her second album, "Under My Skin," which reached No. 1 on the Billboard album charts and established her as a star to be reckoned with.
