Kelis Files for Divorce From Nas

By Chloe Bunker on May 1, 2009

HOLLYWOOD, Calif. — Music star Kelis has filed for divorced from rapper Nas, despite being seven months pregnant with the couple's son.

"I can confirm that she has filed for divorce," a rep for the "Milkshake" singer told Vibe. "We request the media to respect her privacy during this very difficult time."

An attorney for Kelis filed the divorce papers Thursday afternoon, citing irreconcilable differences, according to the publication.

Kelis, 29, and Nas, 35, met in 2002 at an MTV Video Music Awards after-party thrown by Sean "Diddy" Combs. They tied the knot three years later in Atlanta.

While this is the couple's first child together, Nas has a 15-year-old daughter named Destiny from a previous relationship. After learning he had a second child on the way, the "Hip Hop Is Dead" singer expressed his enthusiasm to MTV.

"Yeah, man, I find out what it's gonna be next week, so I'm happy," he said.

Matthew McConaughey and Camila Alves Holding Off on Marriage

By Chloe Bunker on April 21, 2009

HOLLYWOOD, Calif. — For all intents and purposes, Matthew McConaughey is living the married life.

The 39-year-old actor and his longtime girlfriend, model Camila Alves, live together with their 8-month-old son, Levi. It's a harmony that McConaughey doesn't want to interrupt as he contemplates making their relationship official one day.

"I've got nothing against marriage. Um, I'm just not getting married right now," McConaughey told Access Hollywood at a press junket for his upcoming movie, "Ghosts of Girlfriends Past."

The Texas-born star says he has witnessed first-hand the benefits of being married, particulary watching how his own parents interacted.

"I've got a good view on marriage. I mean, I believe in marriage," he said. "I've seen it keep couples together that should've been together too. I come from a family that tested out marriage real well."

One person fully in his corner is Alves, who previously told the online community BabyCenter that McConaughey is the perfect father.

"He's a man – he's my man – and we're a family," said the Brazilian beauty. "He's the best dad he can be, 100-percent hands-on."

Ellen Pompeo Pregnant, Expecting First Baby with Husband Chris Ivery

By Chloe Bunker on April 20, 2009

HOLLYWOOD, Calif. —  Ellen Pompeo and Chris Ivery have gone from shopping for produce to starting a family.

The "Grey's Anatomy" star is pregnant and expecting her first baby with her music producer husband, a rep for the actress confirmed to People.

"They're ecstatic," Pompeo's rep told the mag.

Pompeo, 39, and Ivery, 41, first met at a Whole Foods Market in 2003 after being introduced through mutual friends. They started dating six months later and were married in a low-key ceremony four years later that was presided over by New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg.

Pompeo previously spoke out on her wishes to settle in and get pregnant.

"It's a huge lifestyle change, and I take that very seriously," she told Allure last October.

"We enjoy our life so much," she continued. "We go to Europe and sleep in. So when I have the baby, I won't feel like we've missed any fun, reckless times together, like staying up all night drinking champagne and having sex until five in the morning and not having to get up until two in the afternoon. But I've got to get on it, because the clock is ticking."

Drew Barrymore Admits Justin Long Relationship is 'Confusing'

By Chloe Bunker on April 19, 2009

HOLLYWOOD, Calif. — Are they a couple again or not? That's the question surrounding Drew Barrymore and Justin Long.

The pair, who started dating in August 2007, have been spending a lot of time together lately, prompting many to wonder if they've rekindled their romance after splitting last summer. On Friday, Barrymore paid a visit to the "Ellen DeGeneres Show," where even she admitted to the host that the relationship question is "very confusing."

"We're dear friends," explained the 34-year-old actress, who was accompanied by Long earlier in the week at the New York City premiere of new film, "Grey Gardens."

"I guess people find it a little confusing," continued Barrymore. "I totally understand. It seems like, 'What is the deal with them?,' but we just adore each other. We're in each other's lives, and we're friends, and we're working together, and we have worked together."

Barrymore and Long previously joined forces on the film "He's Just Not That Into You." They'll do so again this summer when they shoot "Going the Distance" together. While they spend plenty of time together, the "E.T." star insisted that it's simply platonic at this point.

"We're just friends," she stressed. "We are free to do whatever we want."

When DeGeneres suggested that their dynamic could change once one of them started dating another person, Barrymore said she understood.

"I would hope that they are fantastic people, because he's a great guy and he deserves the most happiness," she said of any potential suitors for Long.

As for her own dating life, Barrymore said she's not looking for romance right now with so much happening in her career.

"I'm still not ready for anything," she said.

Nicollette Sheridan Sheds Light on 'Desperate Housewives' Exit

By Chloe Bunker on April 14, 2009

HOLLYWOOD, Calif. — Nicollette Sheridan is opening up about her exit from "Desperate Housewives," a move the actress considers a "risky decision."

In the latest issue of TV Guide, the 45-year-old star talks about her reaction when she first heard the news that her character Edie Britt was finished on the show.

"I said, 'OK, sayonara. It's been a great ride. Thank you,' " she recalls, then warning, "[killing off Edie] was a risky decision that could have devastating ramifications."

That warning was directed at the show's creator, Marc Cherry, whom Sheridan believes has had it in for her from the beginning.

"Somebody up there really wanted her dead," Sheridan tells the magazine in reference to Cherry.

"I think that whoever Edie represented in Marc's life was somebody he didn't like," she adds. "And he had a very difficult time distinguishing between fact and fiction."

Cherry was quick to defend himself, saying Sheridan's exit wasn't personal.

"Edie's already slept with most of the guys on the street and has caused about as many problems as she could," he explains to the mag.

"There has been tremendous pressure put on me to find ways to cut costs," he continues. "The network is saying to all the shows: 'The company is really hurting financially. You must find a way to produce these shows more cheaply.' "

Sheridan wasn't about to buy Cherry's explanation after feeling from the beginning that she wasn't part of his big four — Teri Hatcher, Marcia Cross, Felicity Huffman and Eva Longoria Parker.

"When you have a jewel," she asks of Cherry, "why not polish it and put it out there for all to see?"

While part of her perhaps wishes things would have been different all along on Wisteria Lane, Sheridan says she's looking forward to the next chapter in her life.

"When the show started it was such a different beast. It was exciting and dangerous and funny and edgy and bizarre," says Sheridan. "It started feeling a little complacent, and that was very frustrating."

Scarlett Johansson Sounds Off on Harmful Tabloid Diet, Workout Messages

By Chloe Bunker on April 13, 2009

HOLLYWOOD, Calif. — Scarlett Johansson is fed up with the tabloids continuing to feed the public's fascination to look like a star.

The 24-year-old actress writes on the Huffington Post that she was pushed over the edge by several recent articles that claimed she had lost 14 pounds while training for "Iron Man 2."

I'm a petite person to begin with, so the idea of my losing this amount of weight is utter lunacy," writes Johansson. "If I were to lose 14 pounds, I'd have to part with both arms. And a foot. I'm frustrated with the irresponsibility of tabloid media who sell the public ideas about what we should look like and how we should get there."

The young star points out that as many as 10 million females and 1 million males living in the U.S. have either anorexia or bulimia eating disorders.

"I'm someone who has always publicly advocated for a healthy body image and the idea that the media would maintain that I have lost an impossible amount of weight by some sort of 'crash diet' or miracle workout is ludicrous," says Johansson. "I believe it's reckless and dangerous for these publications to sell the story that these are acceptable ways to looking like a 'movie star.'

"It's great to get tips on how to lead a healthier lifestyle, but I don't want some imaginary account of 'How She Did It!' I get into and stay in shape by eating a proper diet and maintaining a healthy amount of exercise. The press should be held accountable for the false ideals they sell to their readers regarding body image — that's the real weight of the issue."

Johansson says she hopes to media corrects the problem and does away with the harmful messages they feed the public.

"I would be absolutely mortified to discover that some 15-year-old girl in Kansas City read one of these 'articles' and decided she wasn't going to eat for a couple of weeks so she too could 'crash diet' and look like Scarlett Johansson," she says.

Gisele Bundchen Dishes on Marrying Tom Brady and Having Lots of Kids

By Chloe Bunker on March 30, 2009

HOLLYWOOD, Calif. — Gisele Bündchen is opening up about her secret February wedding, admitting that she feels lucky to have found the perfect man.

"He's got a pure heart. That's all that matters—he's got the purest heart," the 28-year-old supermodel says of husband Tom Brady in an interview with Vanity Fair. "I feel grateful because I have a lot of love in my life. I found the person I’m sharing my life with. I have a good man."

Bündchen says it was love at first sight when she first met the football star towards the end of 2006.

"I knew right way—the first time I saw him," she says. "We met through a friend. The moment I saw him, he smiled and I was like, That is the most beautiful, charismatic smile I've ever seen! We sat and talked for three hours. I had to go home for Christmas, but I didn't want to leave. You know that feeling of, like, you can't get enough? From the first day we met, we've never spent one day without speaking to each other."

While she immediately experienced bliss, Bündchen says their relationship wasn't always dreamy. Shortly after they started dating, Brady's ex, model-actress Bridget Moynahan, discovered she was pregnant with the New England Patriot star's baby.

"It was definitely a surprise for both of us," Bündchen tells the mag. "In the beginning you're living this romantic fantasy; you're thinking, This can't be true, it's so good! And then, Whoops—wake-up call!"

Bündchen says the challenging ordeal happened just 2½ months into her relationship with Brady, but it eventually made the couple stronger.

"I think it was a blessing, because otherwise I don’t think I would have known what he was made of, and he wouldn't have known what I was made of," she explains. "I wouldn't have seen the integrity in him—the way he was a good person through all the times. I was like, You have the heart in a good place! It made me feel more in love with him; it made me realize who he was. Our relationship has become so much stronger, and I think I wouldn't be as certain as I am today if it weren’t for that."

Moynahan gave birth to Brady's son, John Edward Thomas, in October 2007 and the Brazilian beauty says she feels "blessed to have him in my life."

"I understand that he has a mom, and I respect that, but to me it's not like because somebody else delivered him, that's not my child. I feel it is, 100 percent," says Bündchen, who admits she has never met Moynahan. "I want him to have a great relationship with his mom, because that's important, but I love him the same way as if he were mine. I already feel like he's my son, from the first day."

As for starting her own family, the cover girl is looking forward to having a crowded house.

"I would like a big family," says Bündchen, who is one of six sisters. "I love children. When you come from a big family, you see that growing up you're learning how to share. Your sisters have got your back; you're not alone in this—'We all support you!' Your family provides that; it gives you a sense of safety, and it's a very grounding feeling."

"This is why you get married—you want to create those roots together; you want to give that to your kids," she adds. "I would also love to adopt a child from Brazil. When you come from São Paulo, you see five-year-olds sniffing glue on the corner. You think, If you make a difference in the life of one of them, that makes your time on this earth worthwhile. I will have a colorful family, like a rainbow. I have dogs from rescue; they are all my dogs. Children are like little angels—there's no way you can't love them."

Madonna's Mercy James Adoption Delayed by Malawi Court

By Chloe Bunker on March 30, 2009

BLANTYRE, Malawi — Madonna's hopes of adopting a second child from Malawi have been put on hold until at least Friday.

The 50-year-old singer spent about an hour in court Monday before her adoption application was delayed until the end of the week, officials confirmed to The Associated Press.

Madonna is seeking to adopt a 4-year-old girl named Mercy James, whose parents are both dead. She comes from the Mchinji Home of Hope orphanage.

Word broke late last week that Madonna was traveling to Malawi over the weekend with the intention of adopting another child from the impoverished African country. She previously drew criticism when she adopted her 3-year-old son, David Banda, from the country in 2006. Malawian law requires would-be parents to reside in the country for one year before adopting, a rule that was essentially broken in her case.

Madonna's latest plan is also controversial since Malawi does not typically grant adoptions to single or divorced parents, an issue after her recent split from Guy Ritchie. One person against the "Material Girl's" latest adoption plan is the grandmother of Mercy James.

"Why doesn't this singer pick other children?" 61-year-old Lucy Chekechiwa told Britain's The Sun. "It is stealing. I want to go to to court. I won't let her go."

It remains unclear whether Chekechiwa was in court Monday.

In addition to David, Mercy James would join Madonna's two biological children, Lourdes 12, and Rocco, 8.

Madonna first visited Malawi during a charity mission and to film a documentary on the poverty and AIDS crisis there. She runs the charity Raising Malawi and is also establishing a school for girls there.

Nick Cannon and Mariah Carey Planning Babies, But No Fertility Clinic Stops Yet

By Chloe Bunker on March 27, 2009

LOS ANGELES — Nick Cannon says children are definitely in the future, but right now he and his wife Mariah Carey are just riding out the bliss after tying the knot last May.

"The public really wants us to have kids," Cannon tells Extra. "We're going to do it and when we do it we're going to let you all know. But right now, we're trying to enjoy the newlywed aspect."

The singer spoke to Extra about the baby rumors that broke out after the couple was photographed allegedly leaving a fertility clinic last month in Beverly Hills, a report that Cannon chuckled at.

"We were walking out of the office where Will Smith's office is," he explains, then joking, "unless Will Smith is delivering babies on the low…"

As for all those naysayers who said the couple's marriage wouldn't last after a brief courtship, Cannon said he's enjoying every bit of the sweet revenge.

"First year of marriage was amazing. I'm looking forward to the second year," he says. "It's one of those things, it went by so fast... We're proving people wrong! They said we wouldn't make it. We're making it!"
