Edith Fellows, Child Actress of 1930s, Dies at 88

LOS ANGELES – Edith Fellows, a child actress who was the subject of a famous 1936 custody case, has died. She was 88.

Her daughter, Kathy Fields Lander, tells the Los Angeles Times that Fellows died of natural causes Sunday at the Motion Picture & Television Fund retirement home in Los Angeles.

Fellows' mother abandoned her as an infant, and she was raised by her grandmother, who brought her to Hollywood. She made about 50 movies in the 1930s, '40s and '50s, including the 1936 film "Pennies from Heaven." She later turned to the stage and TV.

Fellows was 13 when her mother sued for custody. Fellows testified that she wasn't "used to loving strangers" and remained with her grandmother.

Comic Book Artist Gene Colan Dies at 84

NEW YORK – Comic book artist Gene Colan, whose career spanned seven decades and chronicled the adventures of characters like Dracula, Batman, Daredevil and the wise-cracking fowl Howard the Duck, has died in the Bronx at age 84.

Longtime friend and biographer Clifford Meth told The Associated Press that Colan died late Thursday at Calvary Hospital from complications of liver disease and cancer. Funeral details were not available, but Meth said it would be a private gathering.

Colan's impact on the industry was undeniable, developing a style both subtle and emotional that imbued the characters he drew with a sense of vitality that seemed to leap off the pages.

'Jackass' Star Ryan Dunn Dies in Fiery Car Accident

West Goshen Township police say Dunn and a passenger in his 2007 Porsche died early Monday after the car left the roadway and burst into flames. The crash occurred near the Philadelphia suburb of West Chester.

Authorities say speed may have been a factor.

Clarence Clemons, E Street Band Saxophone Player, Dead at 69

He was 69.

Clemons was hospitalized about a week ago after suffering a stroke at his home in Singer Island, Fla. He died of complications from the stroke, spokeswoman Marilyn Laverty said Saturday.

Emmy-Winning TV Producer Bob Banner Dies at 89

LOS ANGELES – Television producer and director Bob Banner, whose credits included the Dinah Shore, Garry Moore and Carol Burnett variety shows as well as the TV movies "The Darker Side of Terror," ''My Sweet Charlie" and "Sea Wolf," has died at age 89.

Banner died Wednesday of Parkinson's disease at the Motion Picture & Television Fund retirement community in suburban Woodland Hills, family spokeswoman Lauren Cottrell told the Los Angeles Times.

Born in Ennis, Texas, Banner began his career in Chicago in 1948 as a production assistant on the children's puppet show "Kukla, Fran & Ollie."

Carl Gardner, Coasters Lead Singer, Dead at 83

Laura Ziskin, 'Spider-Man' Producer, Dead at 61

Ziskin, who fought a seven-year battle against breast cancer, died Sunday evening at her Santa Monica home, according to a statement from the Entertainment Industry Foundation.

A public viewing will be held for Clarice Taylor on Tuesday from noon to 4 p.m. at Canaan Baptist Church on 116th Street in New York.

A private wake will be held from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m., followed by the funeral.

Faye Treadwell, Manager of The Drifters, Dies

Treadwell's daughter, Tina, said in a statement that Treadwell died after a long illness. No other details were provided.
