To celebrate its inaugural fall season at Lincoln Center, the New York City Ballet presented a special one-time-only gala performance. The highlight of the evening was the New York premiere of a new ballet by NYCB Principal Dancer Benjamin Millepied set to a commissioned score from Pulitzer-Prize winning composer David Lang. The program also included George Balanchine’s Tarantella and an excerpt from Western Symphony, as well as Jerome Robbins’ I’m Old Fashioned. The gala evening began with cocktails at 5:30 p.m., followed by a 7 p.m. performance, and concluded with an elegant supper ball on the Koch Theater promenade. Sarah Jessica Parker, newly elected to the New York City Ballet board of directors, served as the event’s honorary chairman.
