HOLLYWOOD, Calif. — It may not be prom night, but Britney Spears and Russell Brand are hoping to connect for the upcoming 2009 MTV Video Music Awards.
In a new promo for the Sept. 13 awards show, Spears is seen strutting around in a white bikini as she ponders getting a call from Brand, who is returning to host the event for the second straight year.
"I wonder if he'll invite me," wonders the pop star. "I mean, I can obviously get an invite, but it would be nice for Russell to invite me personally, now that we're friends and all."
Brand, meanwhile, is fighting is own inner demons, wondering if perhaps his controversial ways had set him back.
"I hope I didn't balls it up with her last time," he ponders. "Some of those things I said could have been construed as offensive. I hope she don't think ill of me."
"Should I have played it up more when he was flirting with me last year? Spears questions herself. "I have to admit, there is something sexy about his dangerous ways."
The spot ends with Brand realizing that he can hear everything Spears has been playing over in her head, making for a golden opportunity.
"Britney," he says. "This is the voice of your mind. Go to Russell's hotel room and abandon yourself. Give yourself to him, Britney. Sleep with Russell!"
