NEW YORK – If CBS anchor Scott Pelley succeeds in creating an evening newscast that's a clear alternative to his rivals, Rep. Anthony Weiner may someday be seen as the coal mine's canary.
During Pelley's first week, the "CBS Evening News" devoted less than a third of the time to the sexting episode that has put the New York Democrat's political career in jeopardy than either NBC's "Nightly News" or ABC's "World News."
Melissa McCarthy, Joshua Jackson Named to Announce Emmy Nominees

NEW YORK – TV series stars Melissa McCarthy and Joshua Jackson will be early risers on July 14 to announce the nominations for this year's prime-time Emmys.
McCarthy and Jackson will be up at 5:40 a.m. Pacific time to join John Shaffner, chairman of the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences, to make the announcements in Los Angeles, the Academy said Wednesday.
Staff Turnover Ahead on 'Flipping Out'

NEW YORK – Reality TV home designer Jeff Lewis will have fewer employees to flip out over this season.
The admitted obsessive-compulsive star of "Flipping Out" told The Associated Press two employees on the Bravo show will get fired in the fifth season, which premiers July 6.
One staff firing was expected but the other is a surprise. Lewis, who used to flip houses, says the second dismissal "kind of cuts and hurts." He would not disclose the person's name.
Judge Sends Charlie Sheen's 'Men' Lawsuit to Arbitration

LOS ANGELES – Charlie Sheen may not get quite the audience he wanted for his $100 million lawsuit over his firing from "Two and a Half Men" - a judge on Wednesday ruled that an arbitrator should determine whether the case is handled privately or in a public courtroom.
Jennifer Lopez Undecided on Second Season on 'American Idol'

LONDON – Jennifer Lopez may come back for a second year as a judge on "American Idol." Or she may not.
"You know, this is the question of the hour. I don't know, I don't know," Lopez said Tuesday in an interview with Scott Mills of the BBC.
Lopez and another new judge, Aerosmith frontman Steven Tyler, brought a gentler attitude to the top-rated show following the departure of Simon Cowell.
Bravo: No Merit to 'Real Housewives of New Jersey' Lawsuit

NEW YORK – The Bravo network says a Chicago family's lawsuit against cast members of its "Real Housewives of New Jersey" show is without merit because two family members already have negotiated settlements.
The cable television channel issued a statement Tuesday night saying that $25,000 settlements negotiated by Adolfo Arreola and his cousin, Jason Gomez, "will be enforced and these claims are completely without merit." Bravo isn't commenting on the specifics of the lawsuit.
ABC Family Series Brings 'Chloe King' Books to TV

LOS ANGELES – For Skyler Samuels, "The Nine Lives of Chloe King" meant love at first reading.
The pilot script for ABC Family's new series had it all, said the 17-year-old actress, starting with "a sci-fi element that wasn't cheesy or totally in your face, and seemed entirely natural."
Jessica Candage, 'American Idol' Contestant, Facing Domestic Abuse Charge

PORTLAND, Maine – A two-time "American Idol" contestant from Maine is facing a domestic abuse charge after a police officer saw her hit her husband.
A police report says 25-year-old Jessica Candage of Yarmouth was spotted Sunday evening by a Portland officer who said it appeared she was preventing her husband from walking toward him. The officer then saw Candage punch her husband, Craig, in the face several times.
Lawsuit: 'Real Housewives of New Jersey' Cast Attacked Us

NEW YORK – A Chicago family says members of the "Real Housewives of New Jersey" cast were real louts during a boozy trip to a Caribbean resort.
Yolanda Martinez and some of her relatives filed a lawsuit Monday in New York. They say Teresa Guidice from the "Bravo series" sprayed Champagne in Martinez' face, and then Guidice and others on the show beat up Martinez' son-in-law and his cousin Feb. 23 in Punta Cana, Dominican Republic.
Jessica Simpson Joins NBC's 'Fashion Star'

LOS ANGELES – Jessica Simpson is taking on the role of mentor to aspiring designers for a new NBC reality series.
The network said Monday that Simpson will help guide contestants in the series "Fashion Star" as they compete for a multimillion-dollar contract to launch their own brand.
