Prosecutors Urge Reality TV Producer's Extradition

LOS ANGELES – Federal prosecutors have asked a judge to ignore efforts by a reality television producer charged with killing his wife in Mexico to present testimony from his 6-year-old daughter to fight extradition.
A prosecution brief filed Thursday calls Bruce Beresford-Redman's efforts to call his daughter as a witness during an upcoming extradition hearing an effort to distract the court from overwhelming evidence that he killed his wife.

NEW YORK – For much of last season on Showtime's "The Big C," Oliver Platt played a husband with no clue his wife had been diagnosed with life-threatening cancer.
It was hard playing those scenes "in the dark," he says. "You had to really focus and forget that you knew." But how? "Well, you just do it. It's your job. You pretend."
Platt is pretty good at that.

Bieber, Minaj, Mars Added to 2011 BET Awards Lineup

LOS ANGELES – Justin Bieber, Queen Latifah, Gladys Knight, Bruno Mars and Nicki Minaj are coming to the BET Awards.
BET Networks said Wednesday that the entertainers will appear on Sunday's ceremony, which will be broadcast live from the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles.
They'll join a star-studded lineup set to include performances by Beyonce, Alicia Keys, Lil Wayne, Jill Scott, Drake and Mary J. Blige.

LOS ANGELES – When last "True Blood" fans saw the vampire drama's beloved heroine, Sookie Stackhouse had disappeared in a flash of light.
"At the end of season three, Sookie was taken away, as we know, by the fairy queen," explains Stephen Moyer, who plays vampire Bill Compton in the HBO series. "And so we know that that's very possibly where she may be, as without giving much away. And so we may begin the episode with that."

LOS ANGELES – "Survivor" producer Mark Burnett has found yet another way to toy with gung-ho contestants in his new ABC series, "Expedition Impossible," which sends 13 three-person teams on a trek across daunting Moroccan terrain.
Burnett contends he's doing the folks a favor.
'Mad Men' Star Jon Hamm Signs New 3-Year Contract

LOS ANGELES – Don Draper is getting job security and a raise.
Jon Hamm, who plays 1960s advertising executive Draper on AMC's "Mad Men," has signed a new contract with series studio Lionsgate Television Group. Hamm's publicist, Slate PR, said Tuesday that the deal keeps him with the show for three more years.
The actor will receive a substantial raise for the upcoming fifth season. By the contract's final year, he'll earn more than $250,000 an episode, Variety.com reported, citing unidentified sources.
Keith Olbermann's New Current TV Show Attracts Young Adult Viewers

LOS ANGELES – Current TV is celebrating Keith Olbermann's debut performance.
According to Nielsen Co. ratings, Olbermann's new "Countdown" drew 179,000 viewers age 25 to 54, the young adult demographic favored by advertisers. Figures for total viewers in the 8 p.m. EDT Monday hour were not immediately available.
Recording Academy, CBS Enter 10-Year Grammy Deal

NEW YORK – No need to change the channel: The Grammys will be on the CBS network for the next 10 years.
The Recording Academy announced Tuesday that it had reached a new deal to keep the awards show on the network, where the Grammys have aired since 1973. The network will also broadcast the now annual nominations concert special, which this year will air Nov. 30.
The Grammys are set for Feb. 12, 2012.
Both events will air live from Los Angeles.
Keith Olbermann Returns to the Air on Current TV

NEW YORK – Keith Olbermann has returned to the air promising "a newscast of contextualization."
Five months after his abrupt departure from MSNBC, the outspokenly liberal host premiered on the Current TV network Monday night awash in media attention to his arrival at a new home.
His new nightly show, like the old one, is called "Countdown," and it retains the signature musical riff from Beethoven's Ninth Symphony.
