Kelis Files for Divorce From Nas

By Chloe Bunker on May 1, 2009

HOLLYWOOD, Calif. — Music star Kelis has filed for divorced from rapper Nas, despite being seven months pregnant with the couple's son.

"I can confirm that she has filed for divorce," a rep for the "Milkshake" singer told Vibe. "We request the media to respect her privacy during this very difficult time."

An attorney for Kelis filed the divorce papers Thursday afternoon, citing irreconcilable differences, according to the publication.

Kelis, 29, and Nas, 35, met in 2002 at an MTV Video Music Awards after-party thrown by Sean "Diddy" Combs. They tied the knot three years later in Atlanta.

While this is the couple's first child together, Nas has a 15-year-old daughter named Destiny from a previous relationship. After learning he had a second child on the way, the "Hip Hop Is Dead" singer expressed his enthusiasm to MTV.

"Yeah, man, I find out what it's gonna be next week, so I'm happy," he said.

Usher Apologizes for Chris Brown Comments

By Chloe Bunker on March 4, 2009

HOLLYWOOD, Calif. — Usher has apologized for recent comments he made after seeing pictures of fellow R&B star Chris Brown jet skiing in Miami last weekend.

In a video for Jermaine Dupri's "Living the Life" series, Usher reportedly expressed his shock at seeing Brown playing around on the water, just weeks after the "Kiss Kiss" singer was arrested for allegedly assaulting his girlfriend Rihanna.

"I'm a little disappointed in this photo," Usher reportedly said, according to MTV News. "After the other photo [of a woman thought to be an injured Rihanna after the incident was posted on TMZ]? C'mon, Chris. Have a little bit of remorse, man. The man's on jet skis? Like, just relaxing in Miami?"

But in a statement released late Tuesday, Usher said he meant no harm.

"The comments made during a recent recording session amongst friends were taken out of context and blown out of proportion," read the statement. "I apologize on behalf of myself and my friends if anyone was offended."

"The intentions were not to pass judgment and we meant no harm," continued the statement. "I respect and wish the best for all parties involved."

Brown was arrested on Feb. 8, the night of the Grammy Awards, for allegedly making criminal threats against Rihanna. He is currently free on $50,000 bail.

The couple reunited last week at a Miami Beach home belonging to Sean "Diddy" Combs.

Rihanna and Chris Brown Reportedly Back Together

By Chloe Bunker on February 28, 2009

HOLLYWOOD, Calif. — Rihanna and Chris Brown are reportedly back together.

According to People, the couple has reunited at a Miami Beach home belonging to Sean "Diddy" Combs, just weeks after Brown, 19, was arrested for allegedly assalting his fellow R&B star girlfriend.

"They're together again. They care for each other," a source told the mag, who added that Brown is "really happy to be with the woman he loves."

The magazine says Brown called Rihanna last week to wish her a happy birthday when she turned 21.

"They've reached out to each other," said a source. "It's been mutual."

Brown was arrested on Feb. 8, the night of the Grammy Awards, for allegedly making criminal threats against Rihanna. He is currently free on $50,000 bail.

The "Kiss Kiss" singer has only spoken out once publicly since the incident, releasing a statement that expressed his remorse.

"Words cannot begin to express how sorry and saddened I am over what transpired," said Brown. "I am seeking the counseling of my pastor, my mother and other loved ones and I am committed, with God's help, to emerging a better person."

Axl Rose on Slash: 'I Consider Him a Cancer'

By Rich King on February 27, 2009

HOLLYWOOD, Calif. — For those fans still holding out hope for a Guns N' Roses reunion, you might want to move on.

In granting a rare interview, Axl Rose, the band's lone remaining member, said the odds of reuniting with anyone, particularly former lead guitarist Slash, are slim to none.

"It'd be highly doubtful for us to have more than one of the alumni up with us at any given time," said Rose in a Spinner.com interview with his longtime pal, songwriter Del James. "I suppose (former bass player) Duff (McKagan) could play guitar on something somewhere, but there's zero possibility of me having anything to do with Slash other than by ambush, and that wouldn't be pretty."

When pointed out by James that bringing the old gang together again might make sense, particulary after the dismal performance of last November's "Chinese Democracy," an album that took 17 years to release, Rose says, "it's not enough to sell your soul and live in hell the rest of your life." He then takes another swipe at his main nemesis.

"Slash either should not have been in Guns to begin with or should have left after 'Lies,' " says Rose, referring to the group's second album, "G N' R Lies," released in 1988. "In a nutshell, personally I consider him a cancer and better removed, avoided — and the less anyone heard of him or his supporters, the better."

When pressed further about the pair's differences, Rose says Slash has lost his edge and he's not even a fan of his guitar skills anymore.

"I prefer listening to others in general, especially those who both push their talents and infuse them with a level of energy that I've seldom heard in his efforts over the years," he tells Spinner, adding that he deems Slash's talents limited to being "a whore for the limelight" at this point.

As for some of the other former members, Rose says Izzy Stradlin's recent guest turns on stage were "a great time... but you never knew if Izzy would be there or not or if he'd remember the song or decide to leave early."

Rose also spoke out about former drummer Steven Adler, Slash's close friend who was fired from the band in 1990 due to his struggles with cocaine and heroin addiction. Adler is currently appearing on the VH1 reality show, "Celebrity Rehab with Dr. Drew."

"Unfortunately Steven's given us the spoiler for that," says Rose when asked about Adler's reality gig.

And as for Adler ever returning to the G N' R lineup?

"Steven brings assorted ambulance-chasing attorneys and the nightmare of his mother," Rose tells the publication. "One gig, or even a couple songs, could mean years of behind-the-scenes legal aftermath."

New U2 Album 'No Line on the Horizon' Anxiously Awaited

By Chloe Bunker on February 27, 2009

LOS ANGELES — U2's new album, "No Line on the Horizon," is drawing rave reviews, with many critics calling it some of the band's best material in years.

The Irish rocker's twelth studio album, which drops in the U.S. on Tuesday, garnered five stars from Rolling Stone. The magazine said the new release is the band's best work "in its textural exploration and tenacious melodic grip since 1991's "Achtung Baby."

Q magazine also referenced "Achtung Baby" in awarding U2's new album five stars.

"Simply, what all of this amounts to is the best U2 album since 'Achtung Baby,' " wrote Q. "With time it may prove to be better still."

"No Line" is U2's first release since 2004's "How to Dismantle an Atomic Bomb," which scored the band eight Grammy Awards and has sold more than 9 million copies to date

U2 began production on "No Line" in 2007 in Morocco. The group then continued the process by working at their own studio in Dublin, Ireland before moving to New York's Platinum Sound Recording Studios. The album was finally completed at Olympic Studios in London.

The new 11-track album once again features the contributions of longtime U2 collaborators Brian Eno, Danny Lanois and Steve Lillywhite.

U2 debuted the album's first single, "Get On Your Boots," in March. It has since performed the song on both the Grammy and Brit Awards.

While many have given "No Line" the thumbs up in approval, there are some skeptics who question whether lead singer Bono's political messages will eventually alienate the band's loyal following.

"It's becoming increasingly difficult to hear U2's music without filtering it through your feelings about the other Bono, that strident, sanctimonious swirl of idealism, agenda and ego," wrote J. Freedom du Lac recently in the Washington Post.

Morgan Freeman Sued by Passenger Demaris Meyer Over Mississippi Car Crash

By Chloe Bunker on February 25, 2009

HOLLYWOOD, Calif. — Morgan Freeman is being sued by the female passenger with him at the time of a near-fatal car accident last August in Mississippi, The Associated Press reports.

Passenger Demaris Meyer has retained famed attorney Gloria Allred for the case, in which she is suing the actor for negligence, AP says.

The pair held a news conference Wednesday in Los Angeles, where details about the crash and the nature of Meyer's relationship with the then-married Freeman were revealed. Freeman was driving Meyer's car with her as a passenger when the vehicle went off the road and rolled over several times before coming to a stop. Emergency crews used the jaws of life to remove Freeman and Meyer, who were both airlifted to the Regional Medical Center in Memphis, Tenn. Meyer's injuries included a broken left wrist, right scapula and a torn labrum.

"The accident and its aftermath has literally changed my life in every respect," said Meyer. "I sustained numerous injuries. I was unconscious following the accident ... I could not take care of myself for several months. I have not been able to go back to work and still am suffering both physically and emotionally as a result of the accident."

Freeman suffered his own injuries in the crash, including a broken arm, broken elbow and minor shoulder damage.

"I wound up with a lot of nerve damage in my arm, so the hand is still paralyzed," he told Access Hollywood in January. "So until the nerves get down there..."

There has been much media speculation about the Oscar winner's relationship with Meyer. Just days after the accident, Freeman announced that he was divorcing his wife, costumer Myrna Colley-Lee, after 24 years of marriage. At the time the split was announced, Freeman's attorney and business partner, Bill Luckett, told Access that the couple had been apart for some time.

"For legal and practical purposes, [Freeman and Colley-Lee] have been separated since December of 2007," he said.

At Wednesday's press conference, Meyer said she wanted to set the record straight on her relationship with Freeman. She explained that she had been invited to a dinner party at the Bayou Bend Golf and Country Club by Luckett, which in turn led to her meeting Freeman. Meyer called Freeman a "perfect gentleman" and said they were traveling together the night of the crash because he had invited her to stay at a house on his property to save her from a long drive in the morning.

"I have been labeled as the other woman and have been accused of having caused the breakup of Mr. Freeman's marriage," said Meyer. "Nothing could be further from the truth. I had hoped and prayed that Mr. Freeman or his representatives would have set the record straight and cleared my name, but they have not done so and that is why I have chosen to come forward to tell the truth about our relationship."

Freeman, who lives in Mississippi, won an Academy Award for the 2004 film "Million Dollar Baby," in which he starred alongside Hilary Swank and Clint Eastwood. Other notable film credits include "The Shawshank Redemption," "Driving Miss Daisy" and the recent box-office smash "The Dark Knight."

'Slumdog,' Penn, Winslet Take Top Honors at 81st Academy Awards

By Rich King on February 22, 2009

HOLLYWOOD — "Slumdog Millionaire" completed its rags-to-riches run by winning eight Oscars, including best picture, to dominate Sunday night's Academy Awards in Hollywood.

The uplifting film about an impoverished Indian orphan who enjoys a remarkable run on a game show also captured directing honors for Danny Boyle, in addition to triumphs for adapted screenplay, cinematography, editing and both music Oscars, score and song.

In the best actor category, Sean Penn walked away with the Oscar for his portrayal of slain gay rights activist Harvey Milk in "Milk," scoring the victory over the sentimental favorite Mickey Rourke for "Wrestler. The victory was the second best actor Oscar for Penn, who also won in 2004 for "Mystic River."

Best actress honors went to Kate Winslet for her turn as an ex-Nazi prison guard who enters into an affair with a teenage boy in "The Reader." It was Winslet's first Oscar win in six tries.

As many predicted, Heath Ledger won best supporting actor for his portrayal of the Joker in the Batman movie "The Dark Knight," becoming just the second actor to win an Oscar posthumously. The award was accepted by Ledger's father, mother and sister.

Penelope Cruz won the first big award of the night, capturing best supporting actress for her role in Woody Allen's Spanish romance "Vicky Cristina Barcelona."

Sunday's ceremony was hosted by Hugh Jackman and held at the Kodak Theatre in Hollywood. The world's top film honors are given out annually by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.

Rihanna Thanks Fans in First Comments Since Alleged Chris Brown Assault

By Chloe Bunker on February 20, 2009

LOS ANGELES — In her first public comments since she was allegedly attacked by Chris Brown, Rihanna thanked her fans for their support but declined to discuss the accusations against her boyfriend, citing the ongoing police investigation.

"At the request of the authorities, Rihanna is not commenting about the incident involving Chris Brown," read the statement from her rep firm to The Associated Press. "She wants to assure her fans that she remains strong, is doing well, and deeply appreciates the outpouring of support she has received during this difficult time."

The statement was released on Rihanna's 21st birthday and hours after the celebrity Web site TMZ posted a graphic photo that appears to be of the R&B star after the alleged attack, with her eyes closed, a fat lip, and bruises and cuts on her forehead.

Shortly after the photograph was posted, the Los Angeles Police Department issued a statement saying that it "takes seriously its duty to maintain the confidentiality of victims of domestic violence." Los Angeles Police Chief William Bratton told AP on Friday that his department has launched an internal investigation into the origin of the photo and how TMZ obtained it.

Brown, 19, was arrested on Feb. 8, the day both stars were scheduled to perform at the 51st Grammy Awards. He was booked on suspicion of making criminal threats and is currently free on $50,000 bail.

After the incident, Rihanna postponed concerts overseas and canceled a birthday bash planned for New York. Instead of celebrating her birthday on Friday, the singer found herself in the midst of public outcry over the graphic photo and its potential impact on abused women. Kim Gandy, the president of the National Organization for Women, told AP that the photo is a reminder about the dangers of abuse.

"The reality that domestic violence can happen to anyone, even someone with fame and celebrity, ought to bring home the point that this is a problem for our entire society," Gandy said. "We can't avoid or ignore it."

Police Investigating Apparent Leak of Rihanna Beating Photo

By Chloe Bunker on February 20, 2009

LOS ANGELES — Police in Los Angeles are investigating the apparent leak of a photo that appears be of Rihanna after she was allegedly assaulted by her boyfriend, fellow singer Chris Brown.

The photograph in question was posted on the celebrity gossip Web site TMZ.com Thursday night under the headline: "Rihanna - The Face of a Battered Woman."  The graphic photo shows what appears to be the R&B star with her eyes closed, a fat lip, and bruises and cuts on her forehead. (View the photo)

Shortly after the photograph was posted, the Los Angeles Police Department issued a statement saying that it "takes seriously its duty to maintain the confidentiality of victims of domestic violence."

"The Department launched an immediate internal investigation and subsequently filed a personnel complaint," read the statement. "A violation of this type is considered serious misconduct, with penalties up to and including termination."

Rihanna, who turned 21 today, and Brown, 20, had attended Clive Davis' annual pre-Grammy party in Beverly Hills on Feb. 7 before reportedly getting into an argument on the car ride home. They were sitting in Brown's rented Lamborghini in the city's Hancock Park neighborhood shortly after midnight when the alleged assault reportedly took place.

Brown was arrested the following evening on suspicion of making criminal threats against Rihanna, whose real name is Robyn Rihanna Fenty. He is currently free on $50,000 bail.

Rihanna is said to be working closely with investigators in building a domestic violence case against Brown, who made his first public comments on Sunday.

"Words cannot begin to express how sorry and saddened I am over what transpired," said the R&B star in a statement. "I am seeking the counseling of my pastor, my mother and other loved ones and I am committed, with God's help, to emerging a better person."

There has been much speculation about the incident, including the injuries suffered by Rihanna. In his statement, Brown urged the public to refrain from rushing to judgement based on the current information out there.

"Much of what has been speculated or reported on blogs and/or reported in the media is wrong," he said. "While I would like to be able to talk about this more, until the legal issues are resolved, this is all I can say except that I have not written any messages or made any posts to Facebook, on blogs or any place else. Those posts or writings under my name are frauds."

Tiger Woods Reveals First Photos of New Son Charlie Axel

By K.R. Gomez on February 18, 2009

LOS ANGELES — Tiger Woods is proudly showing off his new son, Charlie Axel, just 10 days after the golf star and his wife, model Elin Nordegren, welcomed their newest addition.

Charlie Axel gets the star treatment in the five photos posted on Woods' official Web site, even getting a kiss in one from older sister Sam Alexis, who was born in June 2007. Even the family dogs get into the action!

Woods and Nordegren, who married in 2004, welcomed their son on Feb. 8.

"Both Charlie and Elin are doing great and we want to thank everyone for their sincere best wishes and kind thoughts," wrote the world's top-ranked golfer on his Web site shortly after the birth.

The 33-year-old PGA star is still in the midst of recovering from reconstructive surgery on his left knee following his U.S. Open win last June, but he previously admitted that his injury turned out to be a blessing.

"While my injury has been disappointing and frustrating, it has allowed me to spend a lot of time watching Sam grow," he said. "I can't begin to tell you how rewarding it is being a dad and spending time with her and Elin."

Now that his new baby has arrived, many believe Woods will return to the course by defending his title at the WGC-Accenture Match Play Championship, which begins on Feb. 25.

Lindsay Lohan Blames Recent Weight Loss on Work and Stress

By Chloe Bunker on February 17, 2009

HOLLYWOOD, Calif. — Lindsay Lohan is speaking out about the tabloid buzz surrounding her suddenly very thin frame.

"It's not intentional," the 22-year-old actress tells Us Weekly of her noticeable weight loss.

"I eat," she continued. "I had my Big Mac yesterday from McDonald's. I eat just as much as I always have."

Lohan admitted that she's lost some weight, but explained that it's mostly due to "working a lot, stress ... and lack of sleep when I travel."

"I think it's all that stuff that adds up," she told the mag.

There were recent tabloid claims that Lohan and her girlfriend, Samantha Ronson, were competing to see who could be thinner, a claim that was later denied by a rep for the "Mean Girls" star.

When asked by Us how much weight she's lost, Lohan said: "I've never weighed myself in life." She then insisted that she doesn't worry about what people say or write about her.

"I'm my own person, and people can say whatever they want. I'm still going to be the person that I am," she explained.

"I'm not perfect; nobody is perfect," she added. "If you try to be perfect, you'll probably go crazy. But you should always accept yourself for who you are. And that's what I've done, and I'm happy."

Check out Lindsay's photo gallery for recent pictures.
