Scottish actress Elaine C. Smith has been cast as Boyle, a shy, forty-something church volunteer from a small Scottish town who became an Internet sensation through her performance on TV show "Britain's Got Talent" in 2009.

She went on to top the British and U.S. album charts and has sold more than 14 million records.

According to Britain's Daily Mail, the Scottish singing sensation became emotional during a lunch with her fans at New York's Rockefeller Center. Boyle reportedly started sobbing and sucking her thumb after the group presented her with a patchwork quilt that had been knit together by hundreds of fans from 28 countries.

The 48-year-old Scottish singer will appear on the hit ABC show this week, Access Hollywood reports.

Boyle is expected to perform "I Dreamed a Dream," the Les Miserables song that skyrocketed her to fame last April on Britain's Got Talent. Pro dancers Tony Dovolani and Chelsie Hightower will perform on the ballroom dance floor as she sings, Access said.

The unemployed 48-year-old Scottish singer first splashed onto the scene when she appeared on the U.K. version of the show in April. After taking the stage to snickers, Boyle's rendition of "I Dreamed a Dream" from the musical "Les Miserables" wowed both the audience and judges, including the often cynical Simon Cowell. A video of her performance quickly went viral and turned Boyle into an overnight sensation.

Boyle who went on to finish as the show's runner-up, told viewers during her appearance that she's adjusting to fame better now.

London's The Daily Mirror has obtained a video of the breakout star from "Britain's Got Talent" singing 23 years ago at her parents 25th wedding anniversary party.

"It was a very emotional night," Boyle's older brother, Gerry, recalled of the night, in which his sister was only 25 at the time. "It goes quiet when Susan sings, it always does. She always has that effect."
