HOLLYWOOD, Calif. — Kara DioGuardi has been fired from American Idol, sources revealed Friday to TMZ.com.

The 39-year-old songwriter sat on the judges' panel for two seasons. No other details about her exit were revealed.

DioGuardi's departure would be the latest in a string of musical chairs surrounding the Fox show. On Thursday, fellow judge Ellen DeGeneres announced she was leaving the singing competition after only one season. Longtime judge Simon Cowell is also leaving the show to focus on bringing his U.K. hit The X Factor to the U.S. next year.

There is mounting speculation that Idol will be returning to its original three-judge format by adding singer-actress Jennifer Lopez and Aerosmith frontman Steven Tyler to sit alongside holdover Randy Jackson.
