Oscars to Allow 5 to 10 Best Picture Nominees

The King's Speech, pictures, picture, photos, photo, pics, pic, images, image, hot, sexy, latest, new, 2011LOS ANGELES – Putting an emphasis on quality rather than quantity, the Academy Awards shook up the best picture category again.

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences announced late Tuesday night that it had approved a change in the nomination process that will allow between five and 10 best picture nominees. On the recommendation of its Board of Governors, the number of the category's nominees will be dictated by the voting.

Tom Sherak, president of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, announced Tuesday that next year's ceremony will be held Feb. 26, the same Sunday as most other recent Oscar shows.

Oscar organizers have considered moving up the show, saying that earlier film awards might be stealing some of the thunder of Hollywood's biggest night.

The eight-time Academy Awards host said he was moved by his warm reception at last month's ceremony and that "it might be fun" to host the show again.

"I think the show needs to change," he said. "There's too many awards and it has to sort of freshen itself up, and if I can be a part of that, that would be great."
