LOS ANGELES – Putting an emphasis on quality rather than quantity, the Academy Awards shook up the best picture category again.
The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences announced late Tuesday night that it had approved a change in the nomination process that will allow between five and 10 best picture nominees. On the recommendation of its Board of Governors, the number of the category's nominees will be dictated by the voting.

LOS ANGELES – And the Academy Award winner is... going to be determined online.
The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences is planning to change its voting system to allow members to make their picks electronically, rather than through mailed, paper ballots the way they have for years.

LOS ANGELES – The Academy Awards are sticking to the last weekend in February rather than moving to an earlier date.
Tom Sherak, president of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, announced Tuesday that next year's ceremony will be held Feb. 26, the same Sunday as most other recent Oscar shows.
Oscar organizers have considered moving up the show, saying that earlier film awards might be stealing some of the thunder of Hollywood's biggest night.

LOS ANGELES – The group that oversees the Academy Awards is under new management.
Dawn Hudson, former head of a top independent-film organization, has been named chief executive officer of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. Longtime academy executive Ric Robertson was chosen as the group's chief operating officer.

LOS ANGELES – Billy Crystal says he'd consider a return as Oscar host — if some changes are made to the show.
The eight-time Academy Awards host said he was moved by his warm reception at last month's ceremony and that "it might be fun" to host the show again.
"I think the show needs to change," he said. "There's too many awards and it has to sort of freshen itself up, and if I can be a part of that, that would be great."

LOS ANGELES – The Academy Awards' red carpet is a traffic jam of celebrities, publicists, media and screaming bleacher fans. There are lots of moments — funny, strange and otherwise — during its two-hour parade of designer duds, shouted names and goofy questions.
Sunday's red carpet ran its course under sunny skies, but temperatures dipped into the 50s and a chilly wind blew at times, making goosebumps de rigeur on Hollywood's most famous flesh.

LOS ANGELES – Sandra Bullock was an Academy Award winner even without a trophy in hand, returning with humor and verve to the stage where she trumped as best actress last year.
