HOLLYWOOD, Calif. — Kristen Bell isn't staying awake at night worrying about the pressures of looking good in Hollywood.
"I don't subscribe to the idea that aging is a bad thing," the actress, who turned 30 in July, tells Shape magazine. "I'm extremely optimistic about what lies ahead of me. Look at Glenn Close, Helen Mirren, and Meryl Streep: They're the best at what they do, and beautiful too!"
For the magazine's September issue, Bell offered 30 tips for looking your best and living a happy life. One of those includes getting lots of beauty sleep.
"Some people need 7 or 8 hours. Me? Nine and a half," she says. "I give my body what it requires."
Bell also prefers to stay in at night with fiancé Dax Shepard rather than hit the town for a Hollywood event.
"I have to do these events for my job, and I enjoy them, but on a daily basis, I'd rather get up early and go to bed early," she says. "Our idea of an exciting night is cooking dinner for friends and playing board and card games. It may sound nerdy, but it's fun!"
When the twosome does hit the town, you might be surprised by how they roll.
"I'm the only person I know who shows up at restaurants at 4:30 p.m. for the early bird special," Bell confesses.
Among the other tips offered by Bell is carving out some daily "me" time, which for her means 10 minutes of meditative yoga. She also suggests letting loose every once in a while.
"My friends and I are all into staying in shape through outdoor activities," she explains. "We play Ultimate Frisbee, hike the trails around Los Angeles, go rock climbing in Malibu, explore underwater caves in Palos Verdes. We're gluttons for excitement, and it keeps us fit!"
When it comes to her diet, the vegetarian says everyone has the right to cheat.
"I've learned I don't really feel well after I eat it," she says of avoiding dairy products. "But I also know that devouring a whole cheesecake with my girlfriends can feel incredible! I'm always going to be the kind of person who treats myself."
Bell recently planted an organic garden and says she avoids placing too much pressure on herself.
"I like to stay fit and challenge myself," she explains. "But I'm not going to try to be a certain size, or weigh a specific amount. I don't own a scale. My goal is to feel good and look healthy."
Bell also admits that she has a serious sweet tooth, which means she's always in search of her next workout.
"If I can burn 10 calories by avoiding the elevator, I'm all for it," she says. "More flights of stairs means I can eat more candy!"
