Coalition Announces Boycott of CBS Over Grammys

The Recording Academy announced Tuesday that it had reached a new deal to keep the awards show on the network, where the Grammys have aired since 1973. The network will also broadcast the now annual nominations concert special, which this year will air Nov. 30.

The Grammys are set for Feb. 12, 2012.

Both events will air live from Los Angeles.

A protest was planned Thursday in Beverly Hills, Calif., at an academy board meeting. It is part of a campaign by those upset by last month's decision to reduce the Grammy fields, which this year totaled 109, to 78.

While no musical genres will be excluded from Grammy contention, the changes will make the awards a lot more competitive.

Neil Portnow, chairman and CEO of the academy, and Steve Stoute, a former top music executive who now works in marketing, released a joint statement Thursday saying they planned discussions on how each side could better understand each other.

The country trio fell just shy of a perfect sweep when Arcade Fire took home the biggest award of the night, winning album of the year for their highly acclaimed The Suburbs.

The Rolling Stones frontman will be accompanied by Raphael Saadiq and his band in performing the telecast's annual "In Memoriam" tribute, which pays homage to members of the music community who have passed away in the previous year.

It will be the 67-year-old Jagger's first live performance on the Grammys.

The 38-year-old rapper is in the running for several major awards, including Album, Song and Record of the Year.

Rising R&B star Bruno Mars was second with seven nominations, with rapper Jay-Z, pop star Lady Gaga and country group Lady Antebellum following just behind with six nominations each.
