HOLLYWOOD, Calif. — Evan Rachel Wood is slinging herself into a new role.

In an interview to promote her new film, "The Wrestler," the 21-year-old Wood tells IESB.net that she has signed on to star in Marvel Entertainment's "Spider-Man" the musical.

Wood, best known for her role of Lucy in "Across the Universe," will reportedly star as Mary Jane Watson in the Broadway adaption.

Julie Taymor has been lined up to direct the musical project, with Bono and The Edge of U2 pitching in on the music and lyrics.

When asked about the chances of her "Across the Universe" co-star Jim Sturgess joining her in "Spider-Man," Wood told the publication that the higher-ups are "still trying to convince him."

The actress said rehearsals for the musical are scheduled to begin in June 2009.
