Edith Fellows, Child Actress of 1930s, Dies at 88

LOS ANGELES – Edith Fellows, a child actress who was the subject of a famous 1936 custody case, has died. She was 88.

Her daughter, Kathy Fields Lander, tells the Los Angeles Times that Fellows died of natural causes Sunday at the Motion Picture & Television Fund retirement home in Los Angeles.

Fellows' mother abandoned her as an infant, and she was raised by her grandmother, who brought her to Hollywood. She made about 50 movies in the 1930s, '40s and '50s, including the 1936 film "Pennies from Heaven." She later turned to the stage and TV.

Stanley Wright, NYC Jazz Musician, Found Dead in Trunk at His Home

NEW YORK – Police say a New York City jazz musician who hadn't been seen since last week has been found dead inside a storage chest in his home.

Stanley Wright was reported missing by his son early Tuesday. Police checked his Brooklyn home around 3:30 a.m. and found his body. He was last seen alive Thursday.

Relatives tell the Daily News the 62-year-old Wright once taught music at a Brooklyn middle school and played at Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts. Wright played the bass, piano and drums and gave lessons.

Dana Wynter, 'Invasion of the Body Snatchers' Star, Dies at 79

LOS ANGELES – Dana Wynter, who ran from the Pod People in the 1956 science-fiction classic "Invasion of the Body Snatchers," has died in Southern California. She was 79.

Her son, Mark Bautzer, told the Los Angeles Times the actress died Thursday in Ojai of congestive heart failure.

Wynter, who starred in a number of television dramas in the 1960s, was best known for her role as Becky Driscoll in director Don Siegel's paranoid film about townspeople being replaced by emotionless duplicates grown from plant-like pods.

Gunter Sachs, Ex-Husband of Brigitte Bardot, Commits Suicide

GENEVA – German-born photographer Gunter Sachs, best known for his playboy lifestyle and brief marriage to Brigitte Bardot, has committed suicide. He was 78.

His family announced the death Sunday from their home in the exclusive Swiss Alpine resort of Gstaad. It was not immediately clear when he died.

Sachs was born into a wealthy industrialist family in 1932 and used his inheritance to fund a glamorous lifestyle that fascinated many in post-war Germany. He also made a name for himself as a photographer and documentary filmmaker.

LOS ANGELES – Former Playboy Playmate and B-movie actress Yvette Vickers was found dead Wednesday at her Benedict Canyon home. She was 82.

A neighbor discovered the body in a mummified state last week, police told the Los Angeles Times.

The body appeared to have gone undiscovered for an unknown period of time - anywhere from several months to a year - and investigators weren't able to determine if it was the remains of a man or woman, Assistant Chief Coroner Ed Winter said.

Emmy Winning-TV Producer Roger Gimbel Dies at 86

LOS ANGELES – Emmy Award-winning TV producer Roger Gimbel, who worked with stars including Bing Crosby and Sophia Loren, has died. He was 86.

Spokesman Dale Olson said Thursday that Gimbel died of pneumonia at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles on Tuesday. Gimbel's wife, actress Jennifer Warren, was at his side.

Gimbel's 500-plus productions received 18 Emmys, including one for 1973's "A War of Children," about Irish and Protestant friends engulfed by strife in Belfast.

Alice Ward, Mom Portrayed in 'The Fighter,' Dies

LOWELL, Mass. – Alice Ward, the matriarch of a Massachusetts boxing clan who was portrayed in "The Fighter" in an Oscar-winning performance by Melissa Leo, has died. She was 79.

Family friend John Descoteaux says Ward died at a Boston hospital Wednesday, one day after she was taken off life support. She had gone into cardiac arrest in January and stopped breathing for more than 30 minutes.

'Glory,' 'Tombstone' Screenwriter Kevin Jarre Dies

LOS ANGELES – Kevin Jarre, who wrote the screenplays for the movies "Glory" and "Tombstone," has died. He was 56.

His aunt, Patty Briley Bean, tells the Los Angeles Times that Jarre died unexpectedly of heart failure on April 3 at his Santa Monica home.

Jarre was a history buff who was entranced by the Civil War since childhood, when he'd received toy soldiers for Christmas. His research on a black regiment led him to write the 1989 movie "Glory," which won three Academy Awards, including one for actor Denzel Washington.
