The Hole singer and widow of late Nirvana frontman Kurt Cobain hopes to "set the record straight" in the book, which is expected to cover her life as an aspiring musician, her marriage and drug problems, her attempted Hollywood career fortune of the Nirvana estate she claims to have been defrauded out of.

Editors for the online retailer cite Tina Fey's best-selling essay collection, "Bossypants," as one of the top 10 books for the first half of 2011.

Fey is named first — because the list is alphabetical by author. Last is "Lost in Shangri-La," Mitchell Zuckoff's account of plane crash survivors in New Guinea.

Jackson makes the claims in her new book, "Starting Over," which also chronicles her own troubles, including an abusive marriage to her late ex-manager/husband, Jack Gordon.

The "Harry Potter" author says she has created a new interactive website to be the exclusive seller of the e-book editions of her popular series.

This is an unwelcome surprise for traditional bookstores, which helped Rowling sell hundreds of millions of the Potter novels. But the news is a landmark for the growing electronic market.

Author J.K. Rowling announced Thursday that her seven Potter novels will be sold as e-books starting in October - ending the boy wizard's status as one of the highest-profile holdouts against digital publishing.

"You can't hold back progress," Rowling said. "E-books are here and they are here to stay."

The Penguin Young Reader Group has signed up 50 Cent's novel "Playground." The publisher announced Monday that the book is a semi-autobiographical young adult novel about bullying that will come out in January 2012. The 34-year-old rapper, whose real name is Curtis Jackson, has acknowledged a violent childhood and dealing drugs at an early age.

Singer-Songwriter Carole King Writing Memoir

The 69-year-old King has signed with Grand Central Publishing for a memoir named after one of her most famous songs, "Natural Woman." The publisher announced Monday that the book will come out in April 2012.
