Sheryl Crow to Write Music for Broadway Show

The 'All I Wanna Do' hitmaker has announced plans to work on the musical adaptation of the 1982 movie with Academy Award winning screenwriter Barry Levinson, who wrote the original script and Tony Award-winning director-and-choreographer Kathleen Marshall.

Audra McDonald to Star in 'Porgy and Bess'

Producers announced Wednesday that the show will begin previews on Dec. 17 at The Richard Rodgers Theatre and officially open on Jan. 12 following a pre-Broadway run at the American Repertory Theatre.

The "Sex and the City" is reprising her role in Noel Coward's "Private Lives" when the comedy hits New York this fall following a run in London last year.

It's the tale of a divorced couple who discover they have adjoining rooms while honeymooning with their new spouses.

Bernadette Peters to Take 'Follies' to Broadway

Producers said Wednesday that Peters will join Jan Maxwell, Danny Burstein and Ron Raines when the show starts previews Aug. 7 at the Marquis Theatre. It closes Sunday in Washington and officially opens Sept. 12 in New York.

Alan Rickman to Return to Broadway This Fall

Rickman, who won a Tony Award in the 2002 production of Noel Coward's "Private Lives," will star in the world premiere of Theresa Rebeck's new play, "Seminar," this fall.

The production will open at a Shubert theater to be announced soon.

Alicia Keys Helping Produce a Broadway Play

Keys, whose hits include "Fallin'" and "A Woman's Worth," will help produce the play "Stick Fly."

The Lydia R. Diamond work is described as a contemporary comedy of manners revolving around an affluent black family. Keys says it's a story that everyone can relate to.

A stagehand was found dead Wednesday night just before the curtain was to rise for the 8 p.m. show at the Al Hirschfeld Theatre. Stars Daniel Radcliffe and John Larroquette announced the cancellation from the stage.

Steve Guttenberg Going to Broadway This Fall

Guttenberg, the "Police Academy" star; Kavner, who supplies the voice of Marge Simpson on "The Simpsons"; and Thomas, the creator of the "Free to Be ... You and Me" series, will be in the new mini plays to be directed by John Turturro.

Angela Bassett Set to Return to Broadway This Fall

Producers announced Tuesday that Basset will play the mysterious woman who visits the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. at the Lorraine Motel in Memphis in playwright Katori Hall's re-imagining of the night before the civil rights leader's 1968 assassination.

Kara DioGuardi to Star in Broadway's 'Chicago'

The songwriter and former "American Idol" judge is the latest celebrity to step into the role of Roxie Hart in the Tony Award-winning revival of "Chicago."

DioGuardi is now the head judge on Bravo's "Platinum Hit." She will be in the show for eight weeks beginning Sept. 5.
