Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie Suing News of the World Over Breakup Story

By Erica Bowen on February 8, 2010

LOS ANGELES — Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie are suing a London newspaper that claimed they were headed for a breakup.

The couple's lawyer, Keith Schilling, confirmed Monday to the BBC that Pitt and Jolie have taken legal action against the News of the World. The lawsuit stems from a January story in which the paper claimed the couple had met with a divorce lawyer and reached an agreement over the dividing of their assets and custody of their six children.

Schilling called the "widely republished" allegations "false and intrusive." The attorney said the suit was filed after the News of the World failed to meet "reasonable demands" for an apology.

Sorrell Trope, a Los Angeles divorce lawyer who was identified in some media reports as the lawyer representing the couple, also denied the claims, saying he had never been in contact with the couple.

"I have had no contact from... Angelina Jolie and / or Brad Pitt," Trope said in a statement Schilling provided to the BBC. "I have never met... your clients or had any involvement with either of them. The foregoing is true with respect to all other members of this firm."

News of the World has yet to comment on the lawsuit.

On Sunday, Pitt, 46, and Jolie, 34, were all smiles as they took their 8-year-old son Maddox to the Super Bowl.

Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie Silence Breakup Rumors

By Amber Sterling on January 31, 2010

LOS ANGELES — So much for those Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie breakup rumors.

The longtime couple hit the town Saturday night for the Directors Guild of America Awards in Los Angeles, where they silenced ongoing tabloid chatter about a forthcoming split.

"They were laughing and having a great time together," a source tells American Superstar.

Pitt, 46, was on hand to support his Inglourious Basterds director Quentin Tarantino at the annual ceremony, which took place at the Hyatt Regency Century Plaza. It was the first public appearance for the pair since tabloids began hinting about trouble brewing in their relationship. The latest issue of Us Weekly claims that Jolie, 34, is fed up Pitt, who isn't "pulling his weight" when it comes to caring for the couple's six children — Maddox, 8, Pax, 6, Zahara, 5, Shiloh, 3, and twins Vivienne and Knox, 18 months.

"She has nannies, but she wants to do it herself," an insider told the mag. "Her kids are all in different stages now, running around, needing attention."

Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt Launch Jewelry Line

By Alexis Sezar on November 16, 2009

LOS ANGELES — Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt are preparing to launch their very own jewelry line, and not surprisingly, for a good cause.

The Hollywood couple has joining forces with British jeweler Asprey to develop a snake-inspired collection of gold jewelry and silver accessories called The Protector, according to Women's Wear Daily.

Jolie, 34, and Pitt, 45, have been working on the project for more than a year. The inspiration for the collection comes from the actress receiving a ring in the shape of snake while she was pregnant in 2006 with her daughter Shiloh. Jolie has since considered the reptile a talisman and protector of her family, WWD says.

Prices for the collection start at $525 for a silver baby spoon with a curving, serpent-shaped handle. Other items include silver baby gifts such as the spoon, an eggcup, tooth box and picture frame. There are also pendants and rings made from gold and micropavé diamonds, all featuring curving snakes.

The jewelry line will go on sale later this week in Asprey stores in London, New York, Beverly Hills, Tokyo and Dubai. All net proceeds will go to the Education Partnership for Children of Conflict. The charity, which was co-founded by Jolie in 2006, raises awareness and funds to educate child victims of war, conflict and natural disasters.

The couple declined to talk about their collection, but Jolie did release a statement speaking about the importance of raising funds for the benefitting charity.

"These are the children who most need a safe place to learn, a place to heal, a place to learn reconciliation, a place to build a better future and a place — to just be children," she said. "Yet the education for these children is often forgotten. Tens of millions of children and adolescents in conflict are not in school."

This isn't the first time Pitt has tinkered with fashion, having previously created pieces for the Italian jeweler Damiani.
