LONDON — Amy Winehouse has been charged with assault following an incident over the weekend at the U.K.'s Milton Keynes Theater, the Associated Press reports.

The 26-year-old singer was arrested Wednesday after turning herself in at a police station. She was charged with a public order offense and common assault.

Winehouse has since been released on bail. A court hearing on the matter has been scheduled for Jan. 20.

The Grammy winner is accused of getting into a physical altercation with a member of the theater's staff after she started heckling during a performance on Saturday. The theater is located in Milton Keynes, a town about 55 miles northwest of London.

The arrest is the latest in a series of legal issues for the star. In July, she was acquitted on charges that she assaulted a fan at a 2008 charity ball in London. In that case, a woman claimed that Winehouse hit her in the eye after she asked the British retro-soul singer to take a picture. Prosecutors claimed it was a deliberate assault, but Winehouse contended that she only pushed the woman because she felt intimidated.
