Man Arrested for 'American Idol' Contestant Alexis Cohen's Death

SEASIDE HEIGHTS, N.J. — A 23-year-old man has been arrested in connection with Alexis Cohen's death, the Asbury Park Press reports.

Daniel Bark of Tom's River, N.J. was taken into custody Sunday at 6 p.m. on charges of causing the former "American Idol" contestant's death by reckless driving and leaving the scene of an accident.

Bark is being held at the Ocean County Jail and could face 10 to 15 years in prison, if convicted. His bail was set at $35,000.

SEASIDE HEIGHTS, N.J. — Former "American Idol" contestant Alexis Cohen died early Saturday morning in New Jersey after being struck by a car in an apparent hit-and-run collision.

Cohen first auditioned for "Idol" in August 2007. Her appearance on the show's seventh season later aired in January 2008, with a video of her angry rant after being rejected quickly going viral.

"I march to the beat of a different drummer," Cohen said before her audition went south, citing Janis Joplin, Grace Slick and Pat Benetar among her influences.

She was 25.

A vehicle passing by noticed Cohen's body lying at the edge of Dupont Avenue near Bay Boulevard in Seaside Heights around 5 a.m. The aspiring singer was transported to Community Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead a short while later, authorities told the paper.
