J.K. Rowling has teamed up with Warner Bros. for a Harry Potter spin-off film series, Deadline reports.
The franchise will be inspired by the Hogwarts textbook Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them and its author Newt Scamander. Rowling will make her screenwriting debut with Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, which is planned as the first film in a new series featuring magical creatures and characters, some of which will be drawn from her previousHarry Potter texts.
"It all started when Warner Bros. came to me with the suggestion of turning Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them into a film. I thought it was a fun idea, but the idea of seeing Newt Scamander, the supposed author of 'Fantastic Beasts,' realized by another writer was difficult," Rowling said.
