Earlier this week Selena Gomez dropped Kendall and Kylie Jenner on Instagram, and of course the media went nuts… Admittingly, I, too wrote about the hypothetical drama, making assumptions about what could have caused the singer to make the move.
Now, just a few days later, SelGo went ahead and unfollowed each one of her other friends, including “besties” Vanessa Hudgens and Taylor Swift.
So what caused the “Come and Get It” singer to go on this radical “friend cleanse?”
If I had to guess, it’s probably partly my fault… And everyone else who wrote an article conjuring up theories about “drama” between the singer and the Jenner sisters.
And I think Selena made the right move. While the internet is going nuts and following her every move on social media, it makes sense for her to quiet all the assumptions by removing everyone off her account… Because now the only hypotheses that can be made are completely irrational.
I can see the flurry of headlines now: “Selena Gomez is Losing It, Drops Her Friends” “Selena Gomez is So Depressed She Can’t Maintain Friendships,” “Selena Gomez Severs All Relationships for Justin Bieber,” and on and on and on.
And I can’t lie to you, even I thought of a title to two that would generate clicks and get people to read my post (didn’t this title catch your eye?), but I figured I’d give it to you straight instead.
So here you have it. My personal opinion: Selena isn’t going crazy. She just wants everyone to shut the f*ck up.
