Before she was Katy Perry, the “Roar” crooner was just a little-known Christian singer touring under the name “Katy Hudson.”
Recently, raw footage of the then-teenager embarking on her very first tour made its way online. Cinematographer Jim Standridge, who travelled with Perry — then known as Katy Hudson — in 2001, shared a never-before-seen video of the young songstress getting ready for a performance back in the day.
In the 12-minute clip, Perry shows off her very first tour bus, gushes about the multiple channels on her TV, and marvels at the fact that you flush toilet paper down the toilet at her home-away-from-home.
“I usually put loads of makeup on before the show because I’m a pizza face,” a fresh-faced Perry tells the camera. “Would you like pepperoni or cheese?”

The vintage video also shows Perry, wearing a denim jacket, knee-length leather skirt and pigtails, performing tracks that she won’t sing anymore Christian songs at a very small club.
“Katy Perry’s first tour as an artist in 2001,” Standridge wrote alongside the video. “I was very fortunate to meet and hang out with this genuine talent in the beginning of her career. The other day I was cleaning out some old footage in my office and found 90 minutes of raw footage I had totally forgot about… I think Katy has grown into an amazing entertainer and woman.”
