For those of you who have seen Fifty Shades of Grey, it comes as no surprise that Dakota Johnson is delightfully hilarious in the most unexpected moments. In fact, it’s Johnson who really makes Fifty Shades worth the while.
The actress is a scene-stealer not only in the erotic movie, with her witty quips and quirky asides; she also elevates the same brand of cute humor in real life.
Let us not forget her awkward (and amazing) red carpet interviews.
As the host of SNL last night (Feb. 28, 2015), Johnson poked fun at Fifty Shades, got support from parents Melanie Griffith and Don Johnson as they sat in the audience, answered awkward questions from a middle schooler during a press junket, joined ISIS and mocking the Toyota Camry “father-daughter” ad, sang “Say What You Wanna Say” with the other female cast members, and much more.
The 25-year-old started, “For those of you who don’t know me, I’m currently starring in Fifty Shades of Grey. Fifty Shades of Grey is the novel that made you never want to touch your mother’s Kindle again.”
She joked about her her dry cleaner can no longer look her in the eye, and that when her dog walker takes the leash off the wall, he gives her a wink.
Johnson adds, “I have a funny feeling at next year’s Oscars, it’s going to be… not anywhere,” poking fun at the critical reviews. But she added the movie has “already made like $500 million” even though it has a “very specific group of fans.”
She commented that she suddenly understands why her parents wouldn’t see the flick, referencing the interview with Griffith that turned into a spat on the Oscars red carpet.
Johnson then told a sweet story about her parents, saying “In December of 1988, my mother stood in exact spot and hosted ‘SNL.’
“And this is true. Right after the show, my father got down on one knee and proposed to her, for the second time. And exactly 9 months later I was born. So I must’ve been conceived after the show, or even during the show.”
In other words, Johnson was destined for her night hosting SNL.
