Nick Cannon may be more ready for the bachelor life than you think.
Amid news that the America’s Got Talent host has separated from wife Mariah Carey, the 33-year-old has been nothing but vocal about dating, dishing to Hello Beautiful about what he looks for in a woman.
“I like a strong woman. I like somebody that knows what they want. Getting right to it, that makes a lot of sense for me, so I welcome that…or welcomed that,” he says, correcting himself after realizing that he’s still technically married.
“You want somebody that’s worth what you’re worth,” he continues. “If they can embrace you for all that you are, then that’s the one.”
Cannon, who began a whirlwind romance with Carey after meeting the singer on the set of her “Bye Bye” music video, also insists that no one should rush into a relationship.
“I’m a true believer that everything has to start out as a friendship first,” he explains. “Everybody that I was serious with, it always started with, ‘Yo, let’s just be cool’ and it ended up being something else.”
“You never want to make it about the individual,” Cannon adds. “You say, ‘Hey, what are you and your friends doing? I want to come hang out with y’all.’ Or, ‘let’s all go together.’ So that takes all the pressure off of it of this whole one on one conversation.’”
Following news of their breakup, Cannon and Carey, 44, have reportedly gotten together to discuss the terms of their impending divorce after the latter allegedly tried to silence her estranged husband. Word has it that things in their six-year marriage got rocky when Cannon proudly boasted about his past sexual encounters in a radio interview, in which he listed the likes of Kim Kardashian, Christina Milian, and Nicole Scherzinger as celebrities he has slept with.
“The first time I made love to my wife was after we got married,” Cannon admitted in the same interview. “I went in like, ‘Yo, she’s gonna love this’ … I fucked the shit out of her.”
Cannon and Carey are parents to three-year-old twins Monroe and Moroccan.
