What a crazy week it’s been for Jesse Helt!
The young man was thrust into the spotlight Sunday night when he accepted Miley Cyrus‘ MTV Video of the Year award on behalf of the songstress, using the moment as an opportunity to spread awareness about youth homelessness.
Sadly, just two days after the big show, reports began circulating that Helt had an outstanding warrant out for his arrest in Oregon for probation violation stemming from previous charges of criminal trespassing and criminal mischief.
Helt decided to turn himself in to officials at the Polk County Jail in Dallas, Ore. late Thursday evening.
An official from the jail told NBC News he was booked, paid $2,500 bond of the $25,000 bail (which is the required 10% needed for release) and was released about an hour later. He is expected to appear before a judge in about two weeks.
However, Cyrus was quick to defend Jesse, saying she doesn’t want people to focus on his criminal record, but instead pay closer attention to the bigger issue at hand: the 1.6 million runaways and homeless youth.
While they obsesses over one homeless mans legal issue lets help the other 1.6 million homeless youth http://t.co/VE6P9yfAVX

She also tweeted, “People who are homeless have lived very hard lives. Jesse included,” adding, “Does looking down upon the homeless help excuse their inaction?”
Instead of belaboring the point, the 21-year-old continues urging fans to donate to her charity My Friends Place i which fans can enter to win a trip to Rio and VIP tickets to her Bangerz concert.
